Create Linear Asset

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to set up the linear asset that is required for performing the exercises below.

  1. Create a new linear asset with the ID M6EB.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create the components for a linear asset.

Create Segments

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a segment that will belong to the linear asset.

Windows:
Linear Asset/Segments

  1. Open the Linear Asset window.
  2. Search for the Linear Asset ID M6EB.
  3. Click the Segments tab.
  4. Click New(+).
  5. The system automatically filled in values for these fields:
  6. In the Segment ID field, enter M6EB-L1.
  7. In the Description field, enter Inside Lane.
  8. In the Start Point field, enter 0, as the start point at where the segment should begin.
  9. In the End Point field, enter 2,8, as the end point, at where the segment should end.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Repeat steps 4-10 to create segments with following details:
  12. Segment ID Description Start Point End Point
    M6EB-L1-2 Inside Lane 2,8 3
    M6EB-L1-3 Inside Lane 3 6,5
    M6EB-L3 Outside Lane 0 6,5

Create Elements

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a element on the linear asset.

Windows:
Linear Asset/Elements

  1. Open the Linear Asset window.
  2. Search for the Linear Asset ID M6EB.
  3. Click the Elements tab.
  4. Click New(+).
  5. The system automatically filled in values for these fields:
  6. In the Element ID field, enter 0.
  7. In the Description field, enter Start of Road.
  8. In the Start Point field, enter 0, as the start point at where the element should begin.
  9. In the End Point field, enter 0, as the end point, at where the element should end.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Repeat steps 4-10 to create elements with following details:
    Element ID Description Start Point End Point
    5000 Mile marker 5 5
    TU01 Tunnel 5,1 5,2
    6500 End of Road 6,5 6,5

Connect Objects

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to connect an object on the element. As an example we are going to register a pump object that will transport water in the tunnel.

Windows:
Linear Asset/Elements/Design Objects

  1. Open the Linear Asset window.
  2. Search for the Linear Asset ID M6EB.
  3. Click the Elements tab.
  4. Select Element ID TU01.
  5. Click the Design Objects tab.
  6. Click New(+).
  7. The system automatically filled in values for these fields:
  8. In the Object ID field, enter PM-312-PA-502.
  9. Click Save.
  10. Click the Equipment Objects tab. You will see that the functional object for PM-312-PA-502 has automatically be entered.

    Note: If you would have entered the equipment object, PM-312-PA-502 in Linear Asset/Elements/Equipment Objects tab, then the design object would have automatically been registered.

Create Connections

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to register a connection on the linear asset. A connection displays what type of relation a linear asset has with another linear asset.

Windows:
Linear Asset/Connections

  1. Open the Linear Asset window.
  2. Search for the Linear Asset ID M6EB
  3. Click the Connections tab.
  4. Click New(+).
  5. Create connection type, Intersection, if you have not already created it.

  6. In the Connection Type field, select Intersection from the List of Values.
  7. Create Linear Asset M4EB from Asset Design, if you have not already created it.

  8. In the Conn LA ID field, select M4EB.
  9. In the Element ID field, select 6500 from the List of Values.
  10. In the Conn Element ID field, select 5500 from the List of Values.
  11. Click Save.

Create Sections

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a section with specific pre-posting information on the linear asset.

Windows:
Linear Asset/Sections

  1. Open the Linear Asset window.
  2. Search for the Linear Asset ID M6EB.
  3. Click the Sections tab.
  4. Click New(+).
  5. The system automatically filled in values for the UoM Length.
  6. In the Section ID field, enter S.
  7. In the Description field, enter Staffordshire.
  8. In the Start Point field, enter 0, as the start point at where the section should begin.
  9. In the End Point field, enter 4, as the end point, at where the section should end.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Repeat steps 4-10 to create section with following details:
    Section ID Description Start Point End Point
    B Birmingham 4 6,5
  12. Click on the first section and choose the right-mouse button choice Pre-Postings.
  13. Note that the Cost Cent field is prefilled with the value from the linear asset.
  14. Click Cancel.
  15. Click on the second section and choose the right-mouse button choice Pre-Postings.
  16. In the Cost Cent field, change the value to 380 (manually or by clicking on the List button and choose from the List of Value).
  17. Click OK.
