Basic Data Setup

Creating Classes

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a design object class to which the design objects will belong.

  1. Open the Class or Classes window.
  2. Click New(+).
  3. In the Class field, enter MOTORWAY.
  4. In the Description field, enter Motorway Carriageway. 
  5. In the Class Identifier field, enter an internal class name, MOTORWAY, that will serve as a comparative name across sites that may use differing languages. This name may be the same as the class, or perhaps the class in another language.
  6. Select the Design Object Class and Linear Asset Class check boxes.
  7. Click Save.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a design object that also creates a linear asset.

Create Linear Asset via Design Object

  1. Open the Design Object or Design Objects window.
  2. Click New(+).
  3. In the Class field, select the MOTORWAY class from the List of Values.
  4. In the Object ID field, enter M4EB.
  5. In the Description field, enter M4 East Bound.
  6. Click Save
  7. The system automatically filled in values for these fields:
  8. Right mouse click in the header part of the window.
  9. Select the Linear Asset... option. You will see that the Linear Asset ID M4EB has been created.

    Note: You can open the Linear Asset or Linear Assets window as well and search for M4EB.
     
  10. In the Length field, change the value from 0 to 9.
  11. Add the following segments to Linear Asset M4EB.
    Segment ID Description Start Point End Point
    M4EB-L1 Inside Lane 0 9
    M4EB-L2 Outside Lane 0 9

  1. Click Save.
  2. Add the following elements to Linear Asset M4EB.
