Create Linear Asset from Asset Design—Exercises
Basic Data Setup
Creating Classes
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a
design object class to which the design objects will belong.
Windows:

- Open the
Class
or
Classes
window.
- Click New(+).
- In the Class field, enter MOTORWAY.
- In the Description field, enter Motorway Carriageway.
- In the Class Identifier field, enter an internal class name,
MOTORWAY, that will serve as a comparative name across sites that may use
differing languages. This name may be the same as the class, or perhaps the
class in another language.
- Select the Design Object Class and Linear Asset Class check
boxes.
- Click Save.
Main Exercise
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a
design object that also creates a linear asset.

- Open the Design Object or
Design Objects window.
- Click New(+).
- In the Class field, select the MOTORWAY class from the
List of Values.
- In the Object ID field, enter M4EB.
- In the Description field, enter M4 East Bound.
- Click Save.
- The system automatically filled in values for these fields:
- Right mouse click in the header part of the window.
- Select the Linear Asset... option. You will see that the
Linear Asset ID M4EB has been created.
Note: You can open the
Linear Asset or
Linear Assets
window as well and search for M4EB.
- In the Length field, change the value from 0 to 9.
- Add the following segments to Linear Asset M4EB.
