Connecting Material Requisition Line and Customer Order Line—Exercises
Basic Data Setup
Project Cost Element
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how
to create project cost elements and connect them to accounts.

- Create project cost elements which can be connected to the accounts as derived
by posting control rules. The posting control rules relevant to manually connecting
material requisition lines and customer order lines are shown in the following
table.
- Connect the relevant cost elements to the relevant accounts. If your company
has been created based on the STD company template and no changes have been
done to the default posting control rules or mappings of cost elements to accounts,
you will see the following mapping:

required data that is used in the exercises below.
- Enter a customer order.

Main Exercise
Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to show you how
to manually connect a material requisition line or a customer order line to an activity,
either from the requisition/order line or from the activity. You will also
learn how to update costs, hours and progress on the activity connected to the material
requisition line and customer order line.

Connecting from the
Material Requisition
window
- Open the Material
Requisition window and query for the material requisition that you
created.
- Right-click on the material requisition line, click Project Connection
and then click Connect to Activity.
- In the Connect To
Activity dialog box that opens, enter the Program ID, Project
ID, Sub Project ID and Activity ID in the relevant fields,
or click the List button to select the details related to the activity
to which the material requisition line should be connected.
- Click OK.
- On completion of the connection, check that the Program ID, Project
ID, Sub Project ID, Activity ID and Activity Sequence
fields on the material requisition line got the relevant values.
- View the added project pre postings by right-clicking on the material requisition
line and then clicking Pre Posting Detail. If the requisition has its
own pre postings, they will remain while the project and activity sequence will
also be added as postings.
Connecting from the
Project Navigator window
- Open the
Project Info window. (Alternatively, open the
Activitywindow.)
- Query for the project you created, expand the Project and Subproject nodes
in the navigator pane and select the activity to be connected to the material
requisition line. (Alternatively, in the
Activity window,
select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the Connections tab, right-click
and then click Connect/Disconnect Object.
- In the window that appears click on the
Material Requisition Lines
and query for the required material requisition line.

Select the Connection check box for the material requisition
line that you want to connect to the activity.

Click OK.
- Note that the material requisition line that you connected is shown in the
upper table on the Connections tab. (Alternatively
it can also be seen in the Activity/Connections
tab).
- Note that there is no check in the System Connection field as the
object was manually connected.
Disconnecting from the
Material Requisition
window:
- Open the Material
Requisition window and query for the material requisition which holds
the record for the material requisition line to be disconnected.
- Right-click on the relevant material requisition line, click Project
Connection and then click Disconnect from Activity.
- Check that the connection details to the project in the Program ID,
Project ID, Sub Project ID, Activity ID and Activity
Sequence fields on the material requisition line have been automatically
removed.
- Check also that the project pre postings that were automatically entered
when the activity was connected were removed. You can verify this by right-clicking
on the material requisition line and then clicking Pre Posting Detail.
Disconnecting from the Project
Navigator window.
- Open the
Project Navigator window. (Alternatively, open the
Activitywindow.)
- Query for the project you created, expand the Project and Subproject nodes
in the navigator pane and select the activity to be disconnected from the material
requisition line. (Alternatively, in the
Activity window,
select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the Connections tab, right-click
and then click Connect/Disconnect Object.
- In the window that appears click on the
Material Requisition Lines
and query for the required material requisition line.

Clear the Connection check box for the material requisition
line that you want to disconnect from the activity.

Click OK.
- Note that the material requisition line that you disconnected is removed
from the upper table on the Connections
tab. (Alternatively it can also be seen in the Activity/Connections
tab).
Connecting from the Customer
Order window
- Open the Customer Order
window and query for the customer order that you created.
- Right-click on the customer order line, click Project Connection
and then click Connect to Activity.
- In the Connect To
Activity dialog box that opens, enter the Program ID, Project
ID, Sub Project ID and Activity ID in the relevant fields
or click the List button to select the details related to the activity
to which the customer order line should be connected.
- Click OK.
- Check that on completion of the connection, the Program ID, Project
ID, Sub Project ID, Activity ID and Activity Sequence
fields on the customer order line got the relevant values.
- View the added project pre postings by right-clicking on the customer order
line and then clicking Pre Posting. If the customer order line has its
own pre postings, they will remain while the project and activity sequence will
also be added as postings.
Connecting from the Project
Navigator window
- Open the
Project Navigator window. (Alternatively, open the
Activitywindow.)
- Query for the project you created, expand the Project and Subproject nodes
in the navigator pane and select the activity to be disconnected from the customer
order line. (Alternatively, in the
Activity window,
select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the Connections tab, right-click
and then click Connect/Disconnect Object.
- In the window that appears click on the Customer
Order Lines and query for the required customer order line.

Select the Connection check box for the customer order
line that you want to connect to the activity.

Click OK.
- Note that the customer order line that you connected is shown in the upper
table on the Connections tab. (Alternatively
it can also be seen in the Activity/Connections
tab).
- Note that there is no check in the System Connection field as the
object was manually connected.

Order window:
- Open the Customer Order
window and query for the customer order which holds the record for the customer

- Check that the connection details to the project in the Program ID,
Project ID, Sub Project ID, Activity ID and Activity
Sequence fields on the customer order line have been automatically removed.

when the activity was connected were removed. You can verify this by right-clicking
on the material requisition line and then clicking Pre Posting.

order line. (Alternatively, in the

select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the Connections tab, right-click
and then click Connect/Disconnect Object.
- In the window that appears click on the Customer
Order Lines and query for the required customer order line.

Clear the Connection check box for the customer order
line that you want to disconnect from the activity.

Click OK.
- Note that the customer order line that you disconnected is removed from
the upper table on the Connections tab.
(Alternatively it can also be seen in the Activity/Connections
tab).
Note: Perform the following steps to process material requisition lines,
and to see the effects on the project activity.
- Return to the
Material Requisition
window, populated with the desired material requisition.
- Reserve material on the connected Material Requisition Line having the Supply
Code Inventory Order.
- Return to the Project
Navigator window populated with your project.
- Select the relevant activity and on
Activity tab observe that the value retrieved to the Committed
Cost column is based on the current part cost for the reserved items in
the material requisition line.
- Go back to the material requisition line and then issue the reserved material.
- Go back to the project activity and observe the value retrieved to the
Used column.
- Verify that the values update the correct cost elements, based on how you
set up the relevant posting control rule M53 and cost element mappings.
Note: Perform the following steps to process customer order lines, and
to see the effects on the project activity.
- Return to the
Customer Order window,
populated with the desired customer order.
- Release the customer order, whose customer order line has Invent Order
or Non-Inventory Order as the Supply Code.
- Go back to the project activity that has been connected to the customer
order line. Observe that the value retrieved to the Committed column
is based on the value entered on the customer order line.
- Verify that the values update the correct cost elements, based on how you
set up the relevant posting control rule and cost element mappings. (When procuring
inventory parts, the posting control rule M24 is used. When procuring non-inventory
purchase parts, the posting control rule M26 is used.)
- Reserve the customer order.
- Go back to the customer order, and then deliver the connected customer order
line whose Supply Code is Invent Order or Non-Inventory Order.
- Back in the project activity which is connected to the customer order line,
observe that the value retrieved to the Used column is based on the value
entered on the customer order line or the inventory transaction value.
- Note that the cost progress for the customer order will be 100% once the
delivery is complete.
- Verify that the values update the correct cost elements, based on how you
set up the relevant posting control rule and cost element mappings.
