Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these initial exercises is that the instructor will use them for demonstrating the basic functionality in the Sales main process, which entails:

IMPORTANT
These initial exercises are intended for instructor use.
If you are a student, it is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Entering and Handling Sales Quotation

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for entering and handling a sales quotation.

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the basic functionality of how an uncomplicated sales quotation is entered by using predefined objects.

Sales Quotation

The customer, Customer 1000, is requesting a quotation for four new cars, type Race Car. If they accept your quotation, Customer 1000 will use the cars in the Monte Carlo Grand Prix which is in four months.

  1. Open the Sales Quotation window.
  2. Create a new record (F5)
  3. Enter the customer number 1000.
  4. Select a coordinator from the List of Values.
  5. Save the changes (F12).
  6. Click the Quotation Lines tab and create a new record (F5).
  7. Enter sales part number 18-100.
  8. Enter 4 as the sales quantity.
  9. Save the changes (F12).
  10. In the quotation header, point to Operations and click Release Quotation, and then click OK in the information box.
  11. In the quotation header, point to Operations and click Print Quotation, and then click OK in the information box.

Note: In actual practice, you will have to await the acceptance from the customer.

  1. In the quotation header, point to Operations and click Create Order from Quotation.
  2. Enter the order type, wanted delivery date, and reason, and then click OK.
  3. Write the customer order number here:____________
  4. Click the Quotation History tab, and verify that the following events have been performed:

Note: You may continue the order flow from step 11 in the Entering and Handling Customer Order exercise.

Entering and Handling Customer Order

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the basic functionality of entering customer orders. You will learn how to enter a simple customer order using predefined objects. Several of the events performed in the order flow are performed automatically.

Note: The customer, Customer 1000, is ordering two new cars of the 18-100 Race Car type. You should enter and release the customer order. Customer 1000 is going to use the cars in the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, which takes place in two months.

  1. Open the Customer Order window.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. Enter 1000 as the customer ID, Customer 1000 is automatically entered as the customer name.
  4. Select the coordinator ALAIN from the List of Values.
  5. Enter PRI, Priority Order, as the order type.
  6. Save your changes, and write down your order number for further references.
  7. Select an order line in the Customer Order/Order Lines tab, and create a new record.
  8. Enter 18-100, Race Car, as the sales part number.
  9. Enter 4 as the sales quantity.
  10. Save your changes.
  11. Note the status Planned in the order header.
  12. In the order header, right-click and click Release, and then click OK.
  13. Refresh the window and note the status again. (To refresh the window, click the displayed order number in the Order No list.)

Note: The customer order is processed by the system and the performed events can be checked in the Background Jobs window. The PRI order type specifies that certain events are automatically performed. It may take several seconds for the status to change.

  1. Click the Order History tab, and verify that the following events have been performed:

Note: The delivery of customer orders is handled in the Shipment main process.
