Basic Data Setup
Progress Templates
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how
to create progress templates.

- Create a progress template that can be connected to your activities.
- Save your changes.

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data
that must be in place before you can perform the exercises below.
- Release the activities on which you want to report progress.

Main Exercise
Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to show you how
to report progress on activities, without needing to define project deliverables
or assign resources. You will both report progress manually on activities and with
the help of a progress template.
Windows:
Project Navigator/Activity
Activity/General
- Open the Project Navigator
window. (Alternatively, open the
Activitywindow.)
Query for your project.
- In the Navigator, select the activity to which you would like to manually
report progress. (Alternatively in the
Activity window,
select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the
Activity/Details
tab. (Alternatively in the
Activity window,
click the
General
tab.)
- Enter a value in the Manual Progress field.
- Save your changes.
- Note which value you have in the Calculated Progress field.
- In the Progress Method list, click Manual.
- Save your changes.
- Observe that the Calculated Progress field is updated, and is equal
to the value entered in the Manual Progress field.
- Note that the Actual Start Date field has a value equal to the early
start date. Observe that the Early Start Date field is no longer editable.
- Optionally, change the actual start date and save your changes. Note that
the Early Start Date field is changed to be the same date as the actual
start date.
- Open the Project Navigator
window. (Alternatively, open the
Activitywindow.)
Query for your project.
- In the Navigator, select an activity to which you would like to report progress
using a progress template. (Alternatively in the
Activity window,
select the desired activity in the Project list.)
- Click the
Activity/Details
tab. (Alternatively in the
Activity window,
click the
General
tab.)
- Enter the desired progress template to connect to this activity, or select
it from the List of Values.
- Save your changes.
- In the Progress Method list, click Template Progress.
- Save your changes.
- If you have not done so, you must release the activity to proceed.
- In the Progress Template Step field, enter a desired progress template
step or select it from the List of Values.
- Save your changes. Observe that the progress associated with this step appears.
- Observe that the Calculated Progress field is updated, and is equal
to the progress associated with the chosen progress template step.
- Note that the Actual Start Date field has a value equal to the early
start date. Observe that the Early Start Date field is no longer editable.
- Optionally, change the actual start date and save your changes. Note that
the Early Start Date field is changed to be the same date as the actual
start date.
