Registering Faults and Events—Exercises

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these lessons is to learn how to register a failure (unplanned) and define how and when to do the repair.

Faults and Events - 1

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to register an unplanned fault event. In this example, the pilot reports some kind of vibration in the nose landing gear during take-off and landing. Technical inspection concludes with tyre damage, but this will be reported as a serial fault later on. Register the fault, distribute as Simplified Work Order without material and execute.

Windows:
Serial Operational Information
Report Fault

  1. Open the Serial Operational Information window.
  2. Query for your A/C, Serial Number: nX20000.
  3. Click the Fault tab, and create a new record.
  4. Your (the logged-on user's) person ID is automatically suggested.
  5. Enter VIB in the Fault Code field.
  6. In Fault Description area, enter a short fault description (use the Remark field for a long description)
  7. Set Fault Category field to A and select Pending Fault as the Fault Action.
  8. Optionally, you can enter additional information on the fault in the Remark field. When a fault task is created, this information will be transferred to the Task Remark field of the corresponding task record on the maintenance order.
  9. Save the information (F12). Fault Number and Task Number will be generated.
  10. Go to Task Distribution - 2.

Faults and Events - 2

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to register a fault of damage of the Wheel Assy (tyre defect) and to apply fault deferral. Register the fault stating that Wheel Assy has to be replaced. The damage is not severe, and you want to defer this task until next stop in maintenance, using the deferral code that you predefined in another exercise. You also want to create a post-maintenance check for the fault 25 FCYC after the fault is repaired.

Windows:
Serial Operational Information
Open Deferred Faults

  1. Open the Serial Operational Information window.
  2. To be able to find the serial number for your wheel, query for your A/C, Serial Number nX20000.
  3. Click the Condition Meas. in Structure tab, select the record for Part Number = X32WHE7002, right-click and click Serial Operational Information.
  4. Click the Fault tab, create a new record and enter a value in the Discovered on Fault Number field which is now available. Use the List of Values.
  5. Your (the logged-on user's) person ID is automatically suggested.
  6. In the Functional Breakdown section, enter 3224 - Tyre as the Bottom Function.
  7. Enter DAM as the Fault Code.
  8. In the Fault Description area, enter a short Fault Description about the need for Wheel Assy replacement (use the Remark field for a long description),
  9. Set the Fault Category field to A and select Pending Actions as the Fault Action.
  10. Save (F12).
  11. Click the Additional tab.
  12. Select the Enable Post Maintenance Check check box, and you are ready to register the post-maintenance check.
  13. Set Days Forewarning = 7, Interval = 25, Oper Param = FCYC and Interval Limit = 25.
  14. Optionally, you can enter additional information on the PMC fault in the Task Remark field. When a PMC task is created, this information will be transferred to the Task Remark field of the corresponding task record on the maintenance order.
  15. Save (F12).
  16. To be able to connect a Fault Deferral Code, you have to create it (if it hasn't been created already). Go to exercise Fault Deferral - 1.
  17. This is where to continue after registering a Fault Deferral Code.
  18. Select the Enable Fault Deferral check box, and you are ready to connect the deferral code.
  19. Write a short description in the Cause/Desc field for deferring this fault, then enter nDEF as the List Code and nITEM as the Item Code.
  20. Save (F12).
  21. Open the Open Deferred Faults window.
  22. Query for your wheel, use the serial number you found earlier, and the fault should appear. Verify that there is a deferral.
  23. Select the row, right-click and click Approve.
  24. Re-open the Serial Operational Information window and click the Fault tab and then click the Additional tab.
  25. Refresh the information and verify that Task Date is calculated to be 3 days into the future.
  26. Go to exercise Operation Logging - 3.
