Creating a Spare Part List—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Part Classes 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create some part classes for the new engineering parts to be created in the next exercise below.

Windows:
Product Basic Data/Classes

  1. If you have not already done so, create two new part classes: XX–PP (Project Produced) and XX–PA (Project Acquired), substituting XX with your name initials.
  2. Save each record.

Engineering Parts

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create some engineering parts that will be used as spare parts for project items in the project product structure.

Windows:

  1. If you have not already done so, create the following new engineering parts, as shown below, substituting your initials for XX:

Creating a Project Product Structure

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can do the the exercises below.

  1. Create a project product structure.
  2. Save your changes.

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a spare part list for a project item in the project product structure.

Creating a Spare Part List Manually

  1. Open the Project Item window.
  2. Query for your project XXPD–01 and part 20–10XX (Engine 1600).
  3. Click the Spare Parts tab. 
  4. Create a new record.
  5. In the Spare Part Number field, enter the spare part 20–10SXX1 (Engine Spare Part 1) or select it from the List of Values.
  6. In the Revision field, enter R01.
  7. In the Quantity field, verify that the quantity is 1.
  8. Save your changes.

Adding a Project Item to a Spare Part List  

  1. Open the Project Item window.
  2. Query for your project XXPD–01 and part 20–10XX (Engine 1600).
  3. Click the Multilevel tab. 
  4. Select the rows containing part 20–122 (Camshaft 1600) and 20–123 (Valve 1600), right-click and then click Add to Spare List. A message appears prompting you to confirm the copying of the parts to the spare part list of part 20–10XX.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. Click the Spare Parts tab and verify that parts 20–122 and 20–123 have also been added to the list.
