Note: In this exercise, change the first number marked with X in the Part Number field to a unique number.

  1. Query for your top part according to the structure and list below.
  2. Enter first level parts in the Consists Of tab. Remember to enter the position and quantity as described in the list below.

Note: If a part exists more than once in a physical assembly, it can appear as multiple lines on the BOM as long as each line has a different position. The sort number is used only for sorting the structure in any desired order.

  1. Go to the next level for part X0-120.
  2. Enter second level parts according to the structure and list below.
  3. Go back to the previous level.

Note: You can add or view the Approval Template, CR, CO Action, and Document Requirements, by using the respective links for services (e.g. Approval Process and Change Requests) on the Attachments panel.  You can also add, view, edit, or print documents using the right mouse button options on the Documents window accessed via the Documents link on the Attachments panel.

  1. Go to the Revision tab, right click and then click Engineering Part Navigator to view the structure of the parts. Different tabs will be available depending on what kind of node you are selecting in the graphical navigator.
  2. Expand descendents to see the entire structure.

First level parts:

Sort No. Part Number Part Revision Position Quantity
10 X0-110 R01 1 1
20 X0-120 R01 2 2
30 X0-130 R01 3 1
40 X0-140 R01 4 1

Second level parts:

Sort No. Part Number Part Revision Position Quantity
10 X0-121 R01 1 1
20 X0-122 R01 2 2
30 X0-123 R01 3 16

Copy Services

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to copy the structure from a different part number.

Windows:

Replace Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to replace one part or revision that is used in structures with another one.

Note: Take a look at the setting for parameter REPLACE_REVISION in the Product Basic Data/Defaults window. This parameter decides which parts that are allowed to replace. Refer to the documentation for more information.

Windows:
Engineering Part Revision/Revision

  1. Select the part/revision that you would like to replace according to the table below. This must be a part that is used in a structure. Tip: Start with your top part, and right-click and then click Next Level in the Engineering Part Revision/Consists Of tab until you find a suitable part.

  2. Right-click and then click Replace Part/Revision in the Revision tab. In step 1 of 3, you do the replacement. Select revision 2 of part 20-110 from the List of Values. The List button will only list available parts.

Note: If the part has alternative parts registered in the Part/Engineering/Alternate Components window, you can only replace the part with a part revision that exists in Alternative. If no alternative parts exist, all parts will be listed.

Note: The new part/revision must have form, fit, and function identical to that of the revision being replaced and a state same as or above.

  1. In step 2 of 3, the table will list where the part is used, and you should select the structures in which you would like to replace the part. Note that the REPLACE_REVISION parameter, together with the status on the replacing part, will determine which parents are listed in the table.
  2. Select the top part according to the following list:
Top Part No. Part No. to be replaced Old Revision New Revision
20-100 20-110 R01 R02
  1. In step 3 of 3, there is a Journal field for entering notes related to why the part is replaced.
  2. When you click Finish, the selected structures will be updated with the new part.
  3. Try different parts/statuses in step 1, and see which parts are listed in step 2.
