Replace Revision

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to replace one part revision that is used in a structure with a different one by using the Replace Part/Revision wizard.

Note: Take a look at the setting for the REPLACE_REVISION parameter on the Defaults tab of the Product Basic Data window. This parameter determines which parts can be replaced. Refer to the documentation for more information.

Windows:
Engineering Part Revision/Revision

  1. Open the Engineering Part Revision window and click the Revision tab.
  2. Select the part revision to be replaced. This must be a part used in a structure. Tip: Click the Consists Of tab of the Engineering Part Revision window and start with your top part. Then right-click and click Next Level until you find a suitable part.
  3. On the Revision tab, right-click and then click Replace Part/Revision. The Replace Part/Revision wizard opens. If the part has alternate parts, as defined on the Alternate Parts tab of the Part window, you can replace the part only with a part revision that has been entered on that tab. The List of Values shows only available alternate parts. If no alternate parts exist, all parts will be listed.
  4. From the table that lists where the part is used, select the structures in which you would like to replace the part. Note: The system will use the REPLACE_REVISION parameter with the status of the replacing part to determine which parents are listed in the table.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Journal field, enter notes about the replacement, for example, why you replaced the existing revision.
  7. Click Finish to update the selected structures with the new part revision.
  8. Try different parts/statuses in step 1 and see which parts are listed in step 2.
