Set Serial Structure In Operation

Explanation

This activity is used to set the operational status for all serials in a structure to In Operation. You can use this activity during the following instances:

• when you build a serial structure and want to set the entire structure to In Operation for the first time
• if there are some serials in a serial structure that have the In Operation status whilst the other serials do not

In order to maintain the correct configuration the operational condition of the serial structure should be set to Operational. This can be done by using the Set Structure Operational option (refer to the activity Set Serial Structure Operational) or automatically when setting a serial structure in operation. If the serial structure does not have the correct configuration, an error message is displayed and you need to do the necessary changes to the structure before the operational condition can be set to Operational for all serialized parts in the structure. When this condition is set, the serial structure is considered serviceable and ready for operation. It is now possible to verify the operational values and any other information that is to be entered in the Component Life window. When building a new serial structure, all serialized parts in the structure are initially set to the Planned for Operation status. Before the structure can be set In Operation (or Out Of Operation), valid active maintenance programs must have been connected to the serials in the structure or minimally to the top part in the structure. When the serial structure is set to In Operation for the first time, the Set Serial In Operation dialog box is displayed. You can use this dialog box to enter a structure change date and/or to connect the maintenance program of a top part to all the serials in the structure that do not have a maintenance program. The given structure change date is used to create an entry in the Serial Structure Information/Serial History tab for all serials in the structure. Note: The child parts in a serial structure can have valid active maintenance programs that are different to the maintenance program for the top part in the structure.

Once the necessary values are entered, the operational status of the structure is set to In Operation while the operational condition is set to Operational (if the correct configuration requirements for the structure have been met). The operational condition and operational status of a serialized part is used to identity the current usability of the part. The operational condition indicates the condition of a serial part while the operational status indicates the current status of the part in it's operational life-cycle. Functional options for the serial structure can be updated in the Serial Structure Information/General tab. Note: The Set Serial In Operation dialog box is only displayed the first time a serial structure is set In Operation.

When changing the operational status of a serial in the Serial Structure Information/General tab, it will be possible to change the condition code of the serial if the Condition Code functionality is enabled for the part number in IFS/Part Catalog.

The Vehicle Condition of a serial is controlled by changes to the serial structure or by an active work order (with status Started or Work Done) both of which can indirectly set the vehicle condition value. Prerequisites

• The serial structure must have the correct configuration. If the structure requirements are fulfilled and the operational condition for all serialized structure parts is set to Operational, the operational status of the serial structure can be set to In Operation.
• A valid maintenance program for the part and revision of the serial must exist. 

System Effects

• The operational status for all serials in the structure is set to In Operation. A warning message is generated if the structure is not complete.
• A valid active maintenance program will be connected to the serial.
• All due calculations for the serial will be run to calculate due dates and values.
• A historical record is created in the Serial Structure Information/Serial History tab if the Vehicle Condition value is changed.

Procedure

Use one of the following options to set a serial structure to the In Operation status from Planned For Operation status.

Option 01:

1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for the top part you want to set to the In Operation status. You can also, create (F5) a serial structure in this window and set the operational status to In Operation after the requirements are fulfilled.
2. Right-click anywhere in the header of the window and click Set Structure In Operation. An informational message will appear, click Yes if you wish to continue with the operation.
3. This will open the Set Serial In Operation dialog box.
4. Select the Set maint. program for all  serials in structure without maintenance program check box if you want to connect the maintenance program belonging to the selected serial to all serials in the structure.
5. By default the current date will be given in the Str Change Date field. You can manually change this value to a required date if necessary.
6. Select the Set Structure Operational check box if you want to set all serials in a structure operational. Note: This check box will only be enabled when a serial structure is to be set to Out of Operation.
7. Click OK to close the dialog box.
8. The Oper Status field in the Serial Structure Information/General tab will be set to In Operation. If the structure is not complete a warning message will appear. This Oper Status field is fetched from IFS/Part Serial Catalog and can also be viewed in Serial Structure Information/Part Serial Catalog tab and the Part Serial window along with all the other status dimensions defined for serials.

Option 02:

1. Open the Serial Structure Information/Consist Of tab or the Serial Structure Information/Multilevel tab.
2. Select the row that holds the part number of the structure you want to set in operation. Right-click and click Set Structure In Operation. An informational message will appear, click Yes if you wish to continue with the operation.
3. Continue with steps 3 to 8 described in option 01 above.

Use the following option to set a serial structure to the In Operation status from the Out Of Operation status.

1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for the top part you want to set to the In Operation status. 
2. Right-click anywhere in the header of the window and click Set Structure In Operation. The serial must fulfill the requirements to be set to Operational. The serial will be set to Operational and In Operation.
