Enter Solution
Explanation
Use this activity to enter details about a global solution. A global solution
is a case-independent generic solution description. This
generic solution can be based on one or more cases. Solutions entered here can be viewed from IFS/Text Search
which makes it possible to use the solutions for cases with similar problems.
Prerequisites
- A support organization, queue, and assignee must be entered in
the Support Organization Basic Data window.
- A category must be entered in the
Case Basic Data
window.
- Business objects must be entered in the
Support Organization Basic Data
window.
- A language must be defined on the System LU Values/Object
Property tab in IFS/Application Services.
- A case must have been created in the
Case
window if the global solution is to be created from a case.
System Effects
- A solution will be created, and the user creating
the solution will become the solution owner.
- The status of the global
solution will be set to New.

Procedure
To create a global solution from the
Global Solution window:
- Open the
Global Solution window.
- Create a new record (F5).
- Optionally, specify suitable values in the Title
Field.
- Save the record (F12).
- Specify a value in the Publish Type field.
By default this value is set to Do Not Publish.
- Enter a value in the Category field. Use the List of Values to
select a suitable value.
The
default category defined in the
Case Basic Data window will be retrieved.
- Click the
Description tab.
- Select the Description check box and create a new record (F5).
- Enter a description for the solution in the upper text area.
The language will be the default
language selected in IFS/Application Services.
- Save the record.
- Select the Local Product Description check box
and create a new record (F5).
Enter a value in the Language
field. Use the List of Values to select a suitable value. The default
language will be taken according to the value defined in IFS/Application
Services.
- Enter a description for the solution (in the local language) in the upper
text area and save the record.
- Select the Resolution
check box, and create a new
record (F5), and enter a
description of the solution. The language will be the
default language selected in IFS/Application Services.
- Repeat steps 713 for the lower text area. You can access information in both
text areas simultaneously. For example, you can view the description in the
upper text area and translate it to another language in the lower text area.
- Save the record (F12).
- Click the Business Objects tab and create a new record (F5).
- Select a value for the Business Objects field.
- Right-click on the row and then click Business Object Selection...
The
Business Object Selection dialog box is opened.
- Click List to select appropriate values for the Ref ID
1, Ref ID 2, Ref ID 3, and Ref ID 4 fields.
- Save the record (F12).
To create a global solution from the
Case window:
- Open the
Case window.
- Query for the relevant record (F3).
- Right-click on the window and then click Create Global Solution. The
Create Solution dialog box opens.
- Enter a value in the Solution Title field. By default, it
will take the title defined for the case.
- Enter a value in the Our Solution Description field.
- Optionally, enter a value in the Our Solution
Resolution and Solution Work
Folder fields. Use the List of Values to select a suitable value.
- Click OK.
Note: To enter and modify default information when creating a global solution
from the
Case window, you need to follow steps 419 in the
Global
Solution window.
