Enter Customer

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to define a customer in the system.

  1. Enter XX–552, C.S.C Bergen as a customer.

Enter Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to enter manufactured inventory parts.

  1. Enter Race Car XX–18–202 (Red) as inventory part. Set the Part Type to Manufactured.
  2. Enter Race Car XX–18–502 (Blue) as inventory part. Set the Part Type to Manufactured.

Enter Sales Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to enter the above inventory parts as sales parts.

  1. Open the Sales Part window and search for the Race Car XX–18–202 (Red) and XX–18–502 (Blue). Register them as sales parts with the Shop Order sourcing option.
  2. Set the sales parts to handle serial numbers.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise it to show you how to reserve serial numbers for a part that should be manufactured.

Reserve serial numbers manually

The customer, XX–552 C.S.C Bergen, wants to buy two pieces of Race Car Red XX–18–202. The customer wants serial numbers 5010 and 5020 to be assigned to the parts.

  1. Open the Customer Order window.
  2. Create a customer order header, and save your changes.
  3. Create an order line for 2 pcs. of Race Car Red XX–18–202, and save the order line.
  4. Select the order line, right-click, and then click Reserve Serial Numbers.
  5. Create a new record, and add 5010 and 5020 as the serial numbers.
  6. Click OK to close the window.

Reserve Serial Numbers from a sequence

The customer, XX–552 C.S.C Bergen, also wants to buy 10 pieces of Race Car Blue XX–18–502. The customer requests that the serial numbers be set using a sequence from 2000 to 2009. The customer also wants to have the prefix BE, for Bergen, in front of the numbers.

  1. In the Customer Order window, create a customer order header. Save your changes.
  2. Create an order line for 10 pcs. of Race Car Blue XX–18–502, and save the order line.
  3. Select the order line, right-click, and then click Reserve Serial Numbers.
  4. Click Sequence.
  5. Select the Prefix check box, and specify BE as the prefix.
  6. Create a new record, and enter an interval from 2000–2009. Click OK.
  7. Verify that the serial numbers are correct.
  8. Click OK to close the window.
