Handling Shortages—Exercises

IMPORTANT
If you are a student, it is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create stored sales parts and receive them into inventory in order to use them when handling shortages.

Enter Customer

Windows:

Customer/Order/General

  1. Enter C.S.C. Oslo as customer with XX-1001 as Customer No.
  2. Indicate that the customer allows back orders (Customer/Order/General).

Create Stored Sales Parts

Windows:

Receive Inventory Part

  1. Enter Race Car as Sales Part and with XX-18-100 as Sales Part No.
  2. Create relevant Inventory Locations.
  3. Create corresponding Inventory Part.
  4. Receive a sufficient number of parts into stock.

Required Data

Entering Customer Order

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up data required for running this particular functionality.

Windows:
Inventory Part Availability Planning
Customer Order
Reserve Customer Order Lines

  1. Open the Inventory Part Availability Planning window and select one of your stored sales parts. Check the available inventory quantity and write it down for future reference.
  2. Enter a customer order with C.S.C. Oslo (XX-1001) as customer. Use an order type with Stop After Print Order Confirmation and without Priority Reservation. Use your User ID as the coordinator. Note the order number: __________.
  3. Enter an order line with an order quantity that exceeds the available inventory quantity for the part. Use the sales part you created, Race Car (XX-18-100).

  4. Release the customer order.

  5. Open the Reserve Customer Order Lines window, and search for your order. Select the order line, right-click, and then click Reserve. Click OK to reserve the order.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to help you understand how to handle shortages in IFS/Customer Order.

Windows:
Handle Customer Order Shortages

In IFS Racing, a picking problem has occurred. This problem must be solved by reducing the sales quantity. The customer is not interested in receiving the back-order quantity later.

Shortage Handling

  1. Open the Handle Customer Order Shortages window, and query for your customer order.

Note: A message should appear stating that the line has only been partially reserved.

  1. Change the quantity in the Sales Qty field to the available inventory quantity.
  2. Open the Customer Order window, and click the Order Lines tab. Query for your customer order, and note the sales quantity on the order line.
