Entering Test Results for Manufacturing (Production Schedule)—Key Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site. 

Basic Data Setup

Viewing a Control Plan for Manufacturing

Purpose: The purpose of this exercises is to view a Manufacturing control plan used for entering test results for a production schedule.

Menu Path: Quality Management/Control Plan/Control Plan – Manufacturing

  1. Open the Control Plan – Manufacturing window.
  2. Query for the control plan for part no. 29-523, Rocker Arm.
  3. Verify that a control plan with Active status exists for the part.

General Exercise for Control Plan—Manufacturing (Production Schedule)

Required Data

Creating a Production Schedule

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to enter a production schedule line that will later be used to create an analysis.

Menu Path: Production Schedule/Production Schedule/Production Schedule by Line

  1. Open the Production Schedule by Line window.
  2. Query for production line 29-M Milling at your site.
  3. Select a schedule line, right-click, and then click Generate Line Schedule. The Generate Line Schedule window appears.
  4. Generate a schedule for part no. 29-523, Rocker Arm. Note: If you do not know how to generate a schedule, go to General Exercise for Production Schedules, or perform the following two steps.
  5. Select a schedule line and then create a new record.  Enter a schedule date. Also enter 29-523 in the Part No field and Rocker Arm in the Part Description field. Finally, enter a value in the Qty Scheduled field.
  6. Save the record.

Main Exercises

Creating an Analysis

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to create an analysis from a production schedule line.

Menu Path: Production Schedule/Production Schedule/Production Schedule by Line

  1. Open the Production Schedule by Line window.
  2. Select a production schedule line.
  3. Right-click and click Create Analysis. The Create Analysis – Production Schedule window appears.
  4. The valid part revision and routing revision are shown by default. These fields can be updated using the List of Values.
  5. Select the Routing Operation No check box. An analysis will be created for the selected operation. 
  6. Create at least five analyses by selecting 5 in the No of Analysis list.
  7. Select the Print Test Instruction check box.
  8. Click OK
  9. The Report Print window appears. Click Preview
  10. View the report and verify that the right test operations are listed.
  11. Close the report.
  12. Another window appears giving you the option to view an overview of the analyses. Click Yes. The Overview – Production Schedules Analysis window appears. The created analyses are listed.

Entering Test Results 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to enter test results.

Menu Path: Quality Management/Control Plan/Control Plan – Manufacturing
Quality Management/Analysis/Analysis Results

  1. You can begin this exercise in three ways:

    Go to the Overview – Production Schedules Analysis window, which you opened in the previous exercise, and select a line. Then right-click and click Analysis Result. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears. 

    OR

    Open the Control Plan – Manufacturing window and query for your current control plan. Click the Production Schedule Analysis tab and select one of  the analyses you created in the previous exercise. Then right-click and click Analysis Result. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears.

    OR

    Open the Analysis Results window from the Navigator and query for your analysis. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears.
  2. Verify that the status of the test operation lines is Incomplete.
  3. Select the Variable test operation line. The results will be shown in the lower part of the window.
  4. Enter your test results and save the record. If you have entered results outside the inner/outer min/max, you will receive a message and the status of the test result line is set to Out of Specification. You can go ahead and save the record if the test results are correct. If you have entered results inside the inner/outer min/max, the status will be set to Within Specification.
  5. Right-click on the the test operation line and then click Complete Registered Results
  6. Verify that the status of the test operation line has changed to Complete.

Confirming Test Results

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to confirm test results. When the test results are confirmed, they can be included in control chart and capability indices calculations.

Menu Path: Quality Management/Control Plan/Control Plan – Manufacturing
Quality Management/Analysis/Analysis Results

  1. You can begin this exercise in three ways:

    Go to the Overview – Production Schedules Analysis window, which you opened in a previous exercise, and select a line. Then right-click and click Analysis Result. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears.

    OR

    Open the Control Plan – Manufacturing window and query for your current control plan. Click the Production Schedule Analysis tab and select one of  the analyses you created in a previous exercise. Then right-click and click Analysis Result. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears.

    OR

    Open the Analysis Results window from the Navigator and query for your analysis. The Analysis Results – Production Schedule window appears.
  2. Right click in the header and then click Confirm Registered Result.
  3. Verify that the status has changed to Confirmed. Once the analysis is confirmed, you can use the data for SPC follow-up.

Entering More Test Results

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to enter test results for all analyses created from a production schedule.

Menu Path: Quality Management/Analysis/Analysis Results

  1. Open the Analysis Results window.
  2. Enter the test results for all analyses.
  3. Open the Control Plan – Manufacturing window, click the Production Schedule Analysis tab, and view the created analyses. These analyses will later be used in control chart and capability indices exercises.
