Reporting Progress on Document Packages

  1. Open the Document Package window and populate with one of your document packages.
  2. For one of the documents in the document package, click in the Document Milestone No field.
  3. Enter the desired milestone number or select it from the List of Values.
  4. Observe that the value in the Cumulative Progress field is equal to the progress associated with the milestone number.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Observe that the value in the Hours Progress field in the header of the Document Package window is calculated. The progress is weighted based on the planned hours of each connected document.

Using Document Packages to Update Activity Progress

  1. Open the Project Navigator window and click the Activity tab. (Alternatively in the Activity window, click the General tab.) Query for your project.
  2. In the Navigator, select the activities which has connected document packages on which you have reported progress. (Alternatively in the Activity window, select the desired activities in the Project list.)
  3. In the Progress Method list, click All Connected Objects.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Observe that the Calculated Cost Progress and Calculated Hours Progress fields are updated according to the cost and hours you have specified. In the example it is the Calculated Hours Progress field that is updated. This is the activity progress based on the progress of the connected document packages.
  6. Note that the Actual Start Date field has a value equal to the early start date. Observe that the Early Start Date field is no longer editable.
  7. Optionally, change the actual start date and save your changes. Note that the Early Start Date field is changed to be the same date as the actual start date.
  8. On the Document Package window, change the progress of one of your documents.
  9. Click the Activity tab again. (Alternatively in the Activity window, click the General tab.)
  10. Observe that the activity calculated progress is updated, considering your change.
  11. Click the Connections tab. Observe that the hours progress for each connected document package is shown here in the Object Hours Progress field.
  12. When an activity's connected document packages have been performed, and all other work executed, complete the activity. (For more information about completing activities, refer to the Executing Activities lesson.)

Note: For an example of an activity which uses connected document packages to report progress, you can refer to the project P101 and activity 10040. Assuming that there are no other connected objects, the activity's calculated hours progress = (60% * 10/15) + 0% = 40%.
