Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show you how to report progress on change orders and how to use change orders to update the activity's progress.

Reporting Progress on Change Orders

  1. Open the Project Navigator window. (Alternatively, open the Activitywindow.) Query for your project.
  2. In the Navigator, select an activity that has connected change orders, on which you would like to report progress.
  3. Click the Connections tab.
  4. Select the row with the change order, right click and click Object Details. The Change Order window opens. (Alternatively, open the Change Order window through the navigator and query for the change order.) Click the Actions tab.
  5. On the lower table, report progress on one or more change order actions. Progress is reported either by filling in a value in the CO Action Progress field or by selecting the Action Completed check box.

Using Change Orders to Update Activity Progress

  1. Continue in the Project Navigator window and click the Activity tab. (Alternatively in the Activity window, click the General tab.)
  2. In the Navigator, select an activity which has connected change orders on which you have reported progress.
  3. In the Progress Method list, click All Connected Objects.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Observe that the Calculated Cost Progress and Calculated Hours Progress fields are updated, which is the activity progress based on the progress of the connected change orders. The calculated progress is weighted based on the planned cost and hours of each connected change order action.
  6. Note that the Actual Start Date field has a value equal to the early start date. Observe that the Early Start Date field is no longer editable.
  7. Optionally, change the actual start date and save your changes. Note that the Early Start Date field is changed to be the same date as the actual start date.
  8. On the Change Order window, change the progress of one of your change orders actions.
  9. Click the Activity tab again. (Alternatively in the Activity window, click the General tab)
  10. Observe that the activity calculated progress is updated, considering your change.
  11. Click the Connections tab. Observe that the progress for each connected change order is shown here in the Object Progress field.
  12. When an activity's connected change orders have been performed, and all other work executed, complete the activity. (For more information about completing activities, refer to the Executing Activities lesson.)
