Adding New Project items—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Part Classes 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create some part classes for the new engineering parts to be created in the next exercise below.

Windows:
Product Basic Data/Classes

  1. If you have not already done so, create two new part classes: XX–PP (Project Produced) and XX–PA (Project Acquired), substituting XX with your name initials.
  2. Save each record.

Engineering Parts

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create some engineering parts that will be used as project items in the project product structure.

  1. If you have not already done so, create the following new engineering parts, as shown below, substituting your initials for XX:

Creating Project Shop Orders

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can do the the exercises below.

  1. Create project shop orders for a project-specific item.

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to show you how to add a new project item to the project product structure with a shop order connected to a project-specific parent item.

Adding a New Project Item with Shop Order Connected to the Parent Item

  1. Open the Project Item window.
  2. Query for your project XXPD–01 and top project item 20–10XX (Engine 1600).
  3. Click the Consist Of tab.
  4. In the Part Number field, enter 20–10SXX (Engine 1600 Spare Part).
  5. Verify that the part revision is R01.
  6. Save your changes. A message appears indicating the modification on the parent item's shop order.
  7. Click Yes. A message regarding the allocation of the part to the parent item's shop order.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Open the Project Product window, and query your project XXPD–01.
  10. On the Items tab, verify that the new part is now included in the list.
