Handling Configured Parts with MRP—Extended Exercises

Basic Data Setup

MRP Extended Data Setup

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the required prerequisite data needed for the extended MRP exercises. You must do this exercise only once to support the extended MRP exercises in the current database. (If the database has been refreshed since the time you set up the data for MRP extended exercises, you will need to set up the data again.)

  1. If you haven't done so already, create your own site and set up the extended MRP data (for extended exercises) in that site.

Handling Configured Part with MRP

  1. Open the Customer Order window. Create an order with a delivery date 15 days from today's date.
  2. Create a customer order line for the 90-300 part with a quantity of 10.
  3. Perform MRP on your site.
  4. Wait until MRP process finishes. (Check the background job window to see when the MRP process is completed.)
  5. Open the MRP Material Plan window and query for all parts in your site.
  6. Notice that the 90-300 and 90-301 parts are listed in the query results, but the 90-303 part is not. They all have DOP as the supply type, but only the 90-300 and 90-301 parts are configured parts. MRP will treat a configured part with planning methods A, D or P as a phantom part and a configured part with a planning method of K will be treated as a blow through part. In this case, the 90-300 and 90-301 parts use planning method A, so they will be treated as phantom parts.
  7. The demand for 10 pieces on the 90-300 part is transferred to its components, so no supply is created for this part. Check the demand for component part 90-301.
  8. The 90-301 and 90-302 parts also are defined as configured parts so demand will only be transferred to their components; no supply is created. Check the demands for the 90-304, 90-305, 90-306, and 90-307 component parts.
