Creating and Modifying DOP Structures/Routings—Key Exercises

Basic Data Setup

Overview of Make To Order Data

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to simplify the process of setting up data correctly in order to complete the exercises below. It includes setting up your own site and copying specified data to that site. Before continuing with the exercises on this page, complete the lesson linked below. You need to do this exercise only once to support all Make to Order exercises in the current database.

Creating DOP Structures—Main Exercises

Purpose: There are several ways to create DOP structures. In the Creating DOP Headers lesson, you generated these structures automatically, using the default structures. In the exercises below, you will learn how to create structures in different ways.

Creating DOP Structures Automatically When Releasing Customer Orders

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a DOP header and structure for a part with an existing structure, using the automatic DOP functionality. You will be able to observe how much information for the associated DOP orders is automatically generated when this functionality is used.

Windows:
Customer Order
DOP Header

  1. In the Customer Order window, create a new record for customer 1000 for your site. Enter a delivery date/time about one week into the future. If there is no value in the Order Type field, enter NO or select this value from the List of Values. Use the default values that are automatically filled in, and save the record. Note the order number: ________.

  2. In the Order Lines tab, create a customer order line. Select sales part number 22-110, Engine, Racing, MTO from the List of Values, and enter a sales quantity of 2.

  3. Verify that the Acquisition field defaults to DOP Order. Note that the DOP Connection field defaults to Automatic DOP. Set the DOP Connection field to Release DOP.

  4. Save the record.

  5. In the customer order header, right-click and click Release to release the customer order. This is a background process and will take a short time to complete. Re-query the customer order until the Status field has changed to Released.

Note: Releasing the customer order creates a DOP header record, then creates the DOP structure using the default structure and routing revision/alternate, then releases each order creating pegged supply orders.

  1. Click the DOP Info tab. Note the DOP ID: _________.

  2. Select the DOP record in the table area, and right-click and then click DOP Header Detail to open the DOP header that was automatically generated when the customer order was released.

  3. Note that the status is Released. Review the information on each of the tabs. You can view the structure in the Structure, Structure Multilevel, and Tree Structure tabs. In the Demand tab, you can view the demand created by this customer order.

  4. In the Tree Structure tab, you can see the pegged shop order for the top level part. Select the top order (order number 1), and right-click and then click Expand Descendents to see the pegged orders for the entire structure.

Creating DOP Structures from Defaults

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a DOP header and structure for a part using the default structure/routing revision and alternative.

Windows:
DOP Header

  1. In the DOP Header window, create a new record.

  2. Enter or select your site from the List of Values. Enter 22-110 in the Part Number field, a due date approximately one week in the future, and a quantity demand of 2.

  3. Save the record.

  4. In the header area, right-click and click Create DOP Structure, then click Create Structure.

  5. In the dialog box that opens, click Yes.

  6. The structure will be created and the DOP header status will be Unreleased.

  7. View the structure in the Structure, Structure Multilevel, or Tree Structure tabs. Since the DOP is not released, there are not yet any pegged supply orders.

Creating DOP Structures Using Selections

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a DOP header and structure for a part by selecting the structure/routing revision and alternative.

Windows:
DOP Header

  1. In the DOP Header window, create a new record.

  2. Enter or select your site from the List of Values. Enter 22-110 in the Part Number field with a due date approximately one week in the future and a quantity demand of 2.

  3. Save the record.

  4. In the header area, right-click and click Create DOP Structure, then click Create DOP Structure to open the Create DOP Structure/Routings window.

  5. The revision and alternative effective on the due date will default into the Structure Revision No, Structure Alternative No, Routing Revision No, and Routing Alternative No fields.

  6. In the Structure Revision No field, click List to select the structure revision and alternative you want to use.

  7. In the Routing Revision No field, click List to select the routing revision and alternative you want to use. You can also accept the defaults listed.

  8. Click OK to close the window and create the DOP structure.

  9. The DOP header status will be Unreleased.

Note: If the Auto Release field is set to Auto Release, the DOP will be released when the structure is created and the DOP header status will be Released.

  1. View the structure in the Structure, Structure Multilevel, or Tree Structure tabs. Since the DOP is not released, there are not yet any pegged supply orders.

Creating DOP Structures by Copying Existing DOP Structure

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a DOP header and structure for a part by copying an existing DOP structure.

Windows:
DOP Header

  1. In the DOP Header window, create a new record.

  2. Enter or select your site from the List of Values. Enter 22-110 in the Part Number field, with a due date approximately one week in the future, and a quantity demand of 2.

  3. Save the record.

  4. In the header area, right click and click Create DOP Structure, then click Create DOP Structure to open the Create DOP Structure/Routings window.

  5. Click Copy DOP Structure/Routing from other DOP.

  6. In the DOP ID field, click List to select the DOP you want to copy. Note that all DOPs for your part with structures already created are listed.

  7. Click OK to close the window and create the DOP structure.

Note: If the Auto Release field is set to Auto Release, the DOP will be released when the structure is created.

  1. The structure will be copied exactly. This process will override any settings for DOP structure depth, netting, netting supply, etc.

  2. The DOP header status will be Unreleased.

  3. View the structure in the Structure, Structure Multilevel, or Tree Structure tabs. Since the DOP is not released, there are not yet any pegged supply orders.

Creating DOP Structures Manually from the Top Level

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create a DOP header and, after creating only the top order, to create a structure manually.

Windows:
DOP Header

  1. In the DOP Header window, create a new record.

  2. Enter or select your site from the List of Values. Enter 22-110 in the Part Number field with a due date approximately one week in the future and a quantity demand of 2.

  3. Save the record.

  4. In the header area, right-click and click Create DOP Structure, and then click Create Top Order. This will create only the DOP order number 1 for the demand part, 22-110.

Now we want to manually create a simple structure under the top DOP order. For simplicity's sake, we will create two DOP orders.

  1. Click the Structure tab.

  2. In the table area, create a new record. Enter 22-210 in the Part No field and 1 in the Qty per Assembly field. Save the record.

  3. Note that the Structure Changed check box now indicates that the structure has been revised.

  4. In the table area, create another new record. Enter 22-322 in the Part No field and 4 in the Qty per Assembly field. Save the record.

  5. Note that the status of both new records is Created.

  6. Select both records, right-click and then then click Plan to change the status of the new records to Unreleased.

  7. In a production environment you would then continue to process the record by releasing the DOP and following the standard steps.
