Tips and Tricks for PM Processing

Below is a list of tips and tricks for the PM Processing course. Click one of the items below to see information that may be helpful to you as you take the course.

What Executables to Use

For running the exercises, there are two executables available, Enterprise Asset Management.exe (EAM.exe) and Service Management.exe (SM.exe). If you are using this material on your own, you can choose to run any of them depending on your preferences. However, if you for instance, need to create a new customer to be used in Service Management, start the Distribution executable.

Importance of Student-Created Data

It is extremely important that you work with your own data to maintain data integrity. You will be working on company 70 and site 70 where there is an equipment object structure created. When you create your own data, it is recommended that you add your initials, XX to the data codes, e.g., XXPN-5-31 for the object ID. It will be easy for you to find your data later on during the exercises, and no one else should be using your data.

In the Prerequisites-section of the exercises, some descriptions are set to *, which means that any appropriate data could be used.

Adding Data to Lists of Values

The Zoom feature helps you set up a piece of missing basic data using the List of Values, or to become familiar with the parameters set for a particular piece of basic data. An example of this is when you need to create an object level which has not been set up. With the cursor in the Action field, click Zoom on the Commands menu (Shift+F9). The Actions window appears, where you can create the needed data.

Data Used in Course Material

If you are an instructor, additional information is available about the Racing database, which is the database used by all IFS Training Materials.

The Racing database contains different data layers, including the following two layers that form the foundation of the database:

To see more information about the Racing database, including a link to documentation for the RTUBE data layer, see Racing Database in IFS Training Help.

Standard Job - Exercises

Create a Standard Job

You have created a new separate standard job. If you would like to create a similar standard job, click the General tab, right-click, and then click Copy Standard Job. You can then copy existing information from one standard job to another. If you have changed information (revision) on a standard job used on PM actions, right-click and then click Replace Obsolete Revisions on PM Actions. All PM actions that have the obsolete standard job connection and which are not used anywhere, will be updated in a background job. If obsolete standard jobs are connected to PM actions which are used, a new revision of the PM action will be created with the active standard job revision. This is done automatically unless there are exceptions, e.g., the revision number of the PM action is a non-numeric value or preliminary PM actions exist. For such PM actions you need to manually create a new revision of the PM action and make the connection to the active standard job.

Material

The material consists of inventory parts and purchase parts, and must have been entered in IFS/Inventory and IFS/Purchasing. On the Materials tab, several options are available, if you right-click and then click the respective option. Use the Inventory Part option to enter a new inventory part or display the inventory part that you want to revise, view, or remove. This window has been revised for IFS/Maintenance. Use the Availability Details option to view the records of orders for a part at a particular site. The Current Quantity on Hand option shows you detailed information about the part quantity in inventory, reserved, available for sales and manufacturing, etc. The Supplier per Part option is used to link approved suppliers to purchase parts. This is a cross-reference of supplier to purchase part information. This enables you to record multiple sources of supply for one purchase part.

Prepare Separate and Route PM Action - Exercises

Before the preparation of the route standard job is finished, you can also update connected route PM actions with the new information. If using a similar route standard job that you have previously entered, you can copy an old one. This saves time and ensures that the expected registered values are correctly entered.
