Creating Plan Structure—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Entering Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to set up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.

Note: If you already have the racing engine parts in your site as shown in the table below, use your existing parts. These parts all have part numbers with the format 20-nnn.

  1. Copy all parts from Site 1 to your site using 200 as the value for Commodity Group 2.
  2. Save your changes.

Main Exercises

Purpose: Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the functionality for entering a planning structure for a master scheduling family.

Plan Structure

Creating Plan Structure Level 0

  1. Open the Plan Structure window.
  2. Query for Part 20–000 on your site.
  3. On the Planning Structure tab, create a new row.
  4. Enter the component parts (green boxes) in the Component Part column as shown in the chart below and site in Component Site column (use your own site). Optionally you can enter your own site first in Component Site column to be able to use List of Values for Component Part.
  5. In the Quantity per Assembly column, the product mix is entered, i.e., the percentage expressed as a decimal, where 1.0 equals 100%.

 

  1. Save your changes.
  2. In the Status field, change the status to Plannable using the right-clicking option. You have now entered a master scheduling family that is equal to the part for Level 0.

Entering parts for MS level 1

  1. Open the Plan Structure window.
  2. Query for Part 20–000 on your site.
  3. Select the manufactured part, right-click, and then click Next Level to move to the next level.
  4. Enter the component parts (blue boxes) in the Component Part field as shown in the diagram above. 
  5. In the Quantity per Assembly field, enter the product mix. This value is a percentage expressed as a decimal, where 1.0 represents 100%.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. In the Status field, change the status to Plannable.
  8. Go to Line Item No 1 , right-click, and then click Previous Level to move to the next higher level. You have now entered a complete planning structure that ends at MS Level 1 equals  end items, product structure parts, recipe structure parts, or  purchase structure parts.
