Tips and Tricks for Manufacturing Standards
Below is a list of tips and tricks for the Manufacturing Standards
course. Click one of
the items below to see information that may be helpful to you as you take the
course.
Windows:
Copy Parts to Site
- Enter the site from which to copy.
- Enter a value into the Comm.
Group 2 field if you are given a value for this in the exercise.
- Enter the site to which to copy.
Start the CTO lesson within Manufacturing Standards with a
demonstration.
- Create an interim order.
- Specify the configuration.
- Show how the structures are created and which components are selected
depending on the configuration specified.
- Edit the configuration, and analyze the result in the structure.
This is a powerful way to demonstrate how CTO works. It makes it easier to
understand the basic data/manufacturing standards lessons within
CTO.
- To be able to see the effects of entering different component usage
factors, you have to run MRP. Before the course, prepare a forecast, and run
MRP to demonstrate the different demands for the components. Change the factor, run
MRP again, and analyze the result.
- You can also demonstrate this in Costing to see the changes in standard cost/cost per part.
- To be able to see the effects of entering different operation usage
factors, you have to run the lead-time calculation.
- You can also demonstrate this in Costing to see the changes in standard cost/cost per part.
- This action is useful but is not easy to understand. You have to know
how the evaluation of the configuration works before you can understand when
and how the 'DECLARE'
action affects the structure and routing.
- Before you start the course in Manufacturing Standards check out which
executables the student can use for the exercises. This will save some time
for the students.
IMPORTANT |
If you are a student, it is extremely important
that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your
data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will
compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other
students. Predictable exercise results require that your data
be isolated in your own site. |
- The instructor should have a thorough knowledge of the manufacturing process.
Manufacturing standards involves a great deal of data for production, so being able to
demonstrate the results in Shop Orders, etc., is a powerful tool.
- Alternatives that differ from * (asterisk) cannot be copied into Cost
Set 1. However, you can calculate for different alternatives.
- MRP calculations will not handle alternatives that differ from *
(asterisk).
- Lead-time calculations can be simulated for alternatives other than * (done on
routing). However, to be able to use an alternate lead time, you
would need to update the lead time for the * alternative.
- When you copy or create your site, use the default setting on the site, as
shown in the table
below
- Set the structure update to Simplified.

- Instructors for the Subcontract Operation lesson should be able to run the
Shop Order and Purchase Order flows.
The lesson covers only the steps within Manufacturing Standards. It will not
make sense unless you run the entire flow as a demonstration.
- The instructor also needs to know how to enter a non-inventory purchase part as
an outside operation item and to explain that you need it in the purchase order
flow.
- The Zoom feature provides an easy way to get to the basic data or setup
data for a List of Values option, e.g., when you are in the routing, have
selected a work center, and want
to see the basic data for it. Press F9 to open the
Work Center window.
