Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show you how to create an Isolation Order and connect it with a permit and work order.

Create Isolation Order

  1. Open the Isolation Order window.
  2. Create a new Isolation Order (F5).
  3. Enter an appropriate isolation type and in the Description field, type in a short isolation order description.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Click the Establishment Instructions tab..
  6. Create a new record.
  7. In the Row No field, enter the sequence number for the establishment instruction.
  8. In the Object ID field, enter the functional object involved in the instruction, e.g., PM-315-V-0001, Shut-off valve on site 70. Use the List of Values.

Note: The functional object you are working with during the isolation order has to have an object type with defined positions. Object types and positions are defined in the Equipment Basic Data window.

  1. In the Position ID field, enter what position the object should have during the establishment, e.g., Closed. Use the List of Values.
  2. In the Prepared by field, enter a signature for the preparation.
  3. Save the record.
  4. To create reestablishment instructions, highlight the created establishment line, right-click and then click Create Reestablishment.
  5. Click the Reestablishment Instructions tab..
  6. Verify the reestablishment instructions. In the Position ID field, change the object position to Open. Use the List of Values.

Using Work Order with Permit and Isolation Order

  1. Click the Prepare tab in the Isolation Order window.
  2. Enter valid dates for the isolation order. Establishment must end before the start of work, and reestablishment must start after the work has ended. Fill in the Planned Start Establishment and Planned Completion Establishment fields, and also the Planned Start Reestablishment and Planned Completion Reestablishment fields.
  3. Save the record (F12).
  4. Open the Permit window and retrieve your permit. Click Query Dialog and enter your permit No as a search criteria.
  5. In the Prepare tab, enter valid dates for the permit. These dates must be between the ending date for establishment and starting date for reestablishment, but also before work started and after work ended.
  6. Save the record.
  7. On the tab for Isolation Orders link the isolation order to the permit using the List of Values.
  8. Save the record.
  9. Change the permit's status to Prepared, by right-clicking and then clicking Prepare.
  10. Open the Prepare Work Order window, and retrieve your work order for connecting the permit.
  11. Click the Permits tab, and connect the permit by right-clicking and click Connect Permit.
  12. In the Permit field, use the List of Values to select the permit that you just created and click OK.
  13. Click the General tab.
  14. In the Start and Completion fields, enter the planned start and completion dates.
  15. Save the record.
  16. Click the Prepare tab.
  17. In the Work Leader field, add a work leader signature. Use the List of Values.
  18. Save the record.
  19. Return to the Permit window. Make sure that your permit is retrieved in the window.
  20. In the Work Leader field, enter the same signature as on the work order.
  21. In the Approved by field, enter an approval signature. Use the List of Values.
  22. Right-click and then click Approve Preparation.
  23. Save the record.
  24. Return to the Isolation Order window. Make sure that your isolation order is retrieved in the window.
  25. Right-click and then click Prepared.
  26. In the Approved by field, enter an approval signature. Use the List of Values.
  27. Right-click and then click Approve Preparation.
  28. Right-click and then click Start Establishment.
  29. Right-click and then click Complete Establishment.
  30. Return to the Permit window. Make sure that your permit is retrieved in the window.
  31. Right-click and then click Release.
  32. Right-click and then click Print.
  33. Return to the Prepare Work Order window. Make sure that your work order is retrieved in the window.
  34. Change the status of the work order to Released and then to Started.
  35. After finishing the work, change the status of the work order to Work Done.
  36. Return the permit. In the Permits window, change the status to Return Permit.
  37. In the Isolation Order window, change the isolation order status to Start Reestablishment.
  38. Change then the status to Complete Reestablishment.
  39. And finally, change the isolation order status to Verify Operability.
  40. Return to the Prepare Work Order window. Make sure that your work order is retrieved in the window.
  41. Right-click and then click Report In.
  42. In the Report In tab, in the Actual Finish field enter the date when the work was finished.
  43. Change the status to Finished.
