Basic Data Setup

Enter Permit Type and Attributes

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show you how to create a permit and connect it to a work order.

Prepare Work Order

Use an existing or create a new work order for an electrical object. Presume that the wiring must be checked. Therefore, the electrical system must be disconnected before the work can be started.

Create Permit

  1. Open the Permit window.
  2. Create a new permit (F5). When entering new data remember to use List of Values (F8).
  3. In the Permit Type field, select a suitable permit type using the List of Values.
  4. In the Permit Description field, type in a short permit description, e.g., Mechanical Permit.
  5. In the Note field you can write a longer description. (Double-click to open it)
  6. Enter your signature in the Prepared By field.
  7. Save your changes.

Using Permit with Work Order

  1. Make sure that your permit is retrieved in the Permit window.
  2. Enter valid dates for the permit. These dates must be before work started and after the work ended.
  3. Save the record.
  4. Change the permit's status to Prepared, by right-clicking and then clicking Prepare.
  5. Open the Prepare Work Order window, and retrieve an appropriate work order for connecting the permit.
  6. Click the Permits tab, Right-click and click Connect Permit.
  7. In the Permit field, use the List of Values to select the permit that you just created and click OK.
  8. Click the General tab.
  9. In the Start and Completion fields, enter the planned start and completion dates.
  10. Save the record.
  11. Click the Prepare tab.
  12. In the Work Leader field, add a work leader signature. Use the List of Values.
  13. Save the record.
  14. Return to the Permit window. Make sure that your permit is retrieved in the window.
  15. In the Work Leader field, enter the same signature as on the work order.
  16. In the Approved by field, enter an approval signature. Use the List of Values.
  17. Right-click and then click Approve Preparation.
  18. Right-click and then click Release.
  19. Right-click and then click Print.
  20. Return to the Prepare Work Order window. Make sure that your work order is retrieved in the window.
  21. Change the status of the work order to Released and then to Started.
  22. After finishing the work, change the status of the work order to Work Done.
  23. Return the permit. In the Permit window, change the status to Return Permit.
  24. Return to the Prepare Work Order window. Make sure that your work order is retrieved in the window.
  25. Right-click and then click Report In.
  26. In the Report In tab, in the Actual Finish field enter the date when the work was finished.
  27. Change the status to Finished.
