Approving Project Part Definitions and Project Items—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Required Data

Creating a Project Product Structure

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can do the the exercises below.

  1. Create a project product structure.
  2. Save your changes.

Approving Project 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can do the the exercises below.

  1. Approve the project in IFS/Project, selecting the project group 10.

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to approve the project, approve the part definition of project items, and redefine and redesign some project items.

Approving Project Part Definition

  1. Open the Project Product window and query for your project XXPD–01.
  2. Click the Part Definition tab.
  3. Select part 2011XX (Engine Block 1600), right-click and then click Approve Part Definition
  4. Click Yes to the information message that appears. Note that you will receive an error message if there is an approval routing connected to this part which has been not completed yet. If you have done the Entering Approval Routing exercises, then an approval routing has been specified for this part. If this is the case, do steps 57.
  5. Go to the Project Item window and query your project and part  2011XX.
  6. Click the App. Routing tab and verfy that the approval steps specified for this part have not been approved.
  7. Approve each step, starting with the first step, by selecting the row and right-clicking and then click Approve Step. Click Yes to the message indicating the approval of the step. 
  8. Go back to the Project Product window and click the Part Definition tab.
  9. Select the part 2011XX again and then right-click and then click Approve Part Definition
  10. Click Yes to the information message that appears.
  11. Click OK to the warning message regarding the part's revision which is not yet released. 
  12. Select all  the other parts, and right-click and then click Approve Part Definition.
  13. Click Yes to the information message regarding the part definition approval of the project item.
  14. Click OK to the warning message regarding the part's revision which is not yet released. 

Redefining and Redesigning the Project Product Structure

Prerequisite: You should do the above Approve Project Part Definition exercise first.

  1. Open the Project Product window and query for your project XXPD–01.
  2. On the Items tab, check the status of each item.
  3. Select 2011XX (Engine Block 1600), and right-click and then click StatusRedefine
  4. Check what happened to the status of the project item.
  5. On the Note column in the Items tab, write any note for part 2011XX.
  6. Save your changes. 
  7. Select the part again, and right-click and then click StatusApprove Design.
