Basic Data Setup

Release Engineering Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.

Main Exercises

Set part revision to Obsolete

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to use the Set Revision Obsolete menu item to change the status of a part going out of production to Obsolete. The part revision will still be present in the database, but can be deleted if wanted.

Note: Changing a part status to Obsolete is irreversible.

  1. Open Engineering Part Revision.
  2. Query for your part according to the list below
  3. Right click, click Status and then click Obsolete.

Replace obsolete part

Note: To replace an obsolete part revision used in an activated or released structure you need to change the default settings in Product Basic Data (refer to documentation for further information)

  1. Open Engineering Part Revision.
  2. Query for your obsolete part, right click and click Create New Revision
  3. Enter a new revision and a journal note. By selecting the  Replace Old Revision check box you will automatically run the Replace Part/Revision wizard after which the new part revision is inserted in the structure.

Delete part revision

Note: The part revision cannot be a part of any structure.

  1. Open Engineering Parts
  2. Query for your part. Change the status to Obsolete if not done already.
  3. Click Delete (F7). The Part Revision is deleted, along with all its related information. All journal lines are removed when the part revision is deleted.
