Public Holiday Compensation—Exercises

Basic Data Setup

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this functionality. To enter this data, follow the instructions in the Administering Wage Codes, and Administering Working Hours Schedules, exercises. If you have completed these exercises, the data you need should already be in the database, and you can proceed directly to the main exercises.

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to familiarize you with the types of compensation used in IFS Applications, such as increments, emergency service, and public holiday compensation.

Create Public Holiday Compensation Schedules

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to define compensation for public holidays that occurs on a normal weekday that otherwise would have been a normal working day.

Note: Public holiday compensation (PHC) should be given to your employees on each holiday that occur on a workday.  

  1. Go to the Substitute Schedule that you defined in the Administering Working Hours Schedules exercise. Make a note of all holidays in this schedule that occur on a regular working day ( i.e. a weekday).
  2. Open the Public Holiday Compensation Schedules window, and click the PHC Day Type tab.
  3. Create a new day type for public holiday compensation with a name and a description.
    a.) Zoom to the Wage Codes window and create a new wage code for public holiday compensation with time type Increment.
    b.) Connect the wage code to the PHC day type. Use Value Type Fixed and enter 8 hours in the Fixed Value field. 
  4. Go to the PHC Schedule tab and define the public holiday compensation schedule.
    1. Give the schedule a name and description.
    2. Create a row and connect the PHC day type to the first of the dates that you defined as public holidays occurring on weekdays in step 1 of this exercise.
    3. Repeat steps a–c above until the schedule is complete.
  5. Go to Time Card – Day
    a.) Select a date when the employee is eligible for public holiday compensation.
    b.) Create a 12 P.M. to 12 P.M. (00:00 to 00:00) clocking that triggers the calculation program without giving any results. 
    c.) in the Results tab, verify that 8 hours of public holiday compensation increments has been calculated.
