Change Part Revision

Explanation

This activity is used to change the part revision of a serial. The change of a serial part revision can occur as a result of embodying a modification on the serial. Note however that a part revision can also be changed for serials that do no have a defined modification. Furthermore, this activity may need to be performed due to the configuration changes on a serial.

If you choose to change the part revision for a serial that is installed in a structure, the list of valid parts, i.e., position alternates for the structure position and template alternates for the template, is used to define the new part revisions for the serial. However, if you choose to perform this activity for a serial that is not installed in a structure, the different configurations (templates) for the serial part is used to define the valid new revisions for the serial.

When the part revision of a serial is changed, there can occur differences in templates, such as, new structure positions or removed structure positions. If empty or not installed structure positions exist in the serial structure but do not exist in the new template revision, these empty structure positions will be removed automatically when this activity is performed. If structure positions exist in the template structure which are not present in the serial structure, these structure positions will be added automatically to the serial structure as empty structure positions when performing this activity. Empty or not installed structure positions refer to the structure positions where expected serials or parts are missing from the serial structure.
