Procedure
- Open the Organization Chart window.
- Note that any organization chart that you will generate is displayed as
it would look on a date specified at the top of the window.
- In the search field located under the Filters pane, enter the
phrase that you want to look for. It can be a name or ID of a company,
organization unit, matrix organization, employee, or a position. Tabs visible
on the right side under the pane will display the number of returned
results.
- Structures tab shows all company and matrix organization structures
that fulfill the search criteria.
- Organizations tab shows all company and matrix organization units
that fulfill the search criteria.
- Employees tab displays all employees that fulfill the search
criteria.
- Positions tab displays all employees that fulfill the search
criteria.
- If your search returns results on any of the tabs, click the tab to
inspect the result.
- On the Structures, Organizations, and Employees
tabs, you can click the company or organization structure name to load the
chart. Whatever you clicked will be the current context of the chart
(explained below).
- Inspect the chart
- The shape of the chart is determined by its context, visible under
the Current Context pane.
- Organization units below the context will be presented as a complete tree
diagram.
- Above the context you can only see the path leading directly to the
root of the structure.
- You can switch context by clicking unit names on the chart or in the
search results located on the left.
- To see the most information, make the root of a structure (the
topmost organization unit) the context. You can see the list of all
available roots on the Structures tab. In case of matrix
structures, the chart should display the entire structure and companies
to which it is connected.
- Buttons placed at the top of the window allow you to expand, zoom,
export or reload the structure. Mouse over each button to see its name.
- Buttons Show Matrix Structures and Show Company Structures
can be toggled to hide and show company and matrix organization
structures visible in the chart.
- If you expand an organization unit that has employees assigned to
it, you will see their positions formed into a small position structure.
This structure is based on the standard position structure, but uses
only positions of employees assigned to the unit. This gives you a
unique overview of how a unit is structured while taking positions into
account.
- You can expand each position to view which unit members hold it.
- Employees assigned without a position are listed at the bottom of a
unit.
- A magnifying glass icon is located in the lower right corner of some
chart elements. Clicking on it opens an application window where you can
inspect and change the element.
- To see details of an element without navigating to a different
window, click it and select it under the Selection pane.
- You can zoom in and out of the structure by scrolling your middle
mouse button.
- You can export the chart by clicking the Export to XPS
button.
Note: For export to work properly, you have to make sure that you
can see the top left corner of the diagram, and only then press the
export button.
