This activity is used to define a service type as default. A default service type can be used for the repair order types External Service Order and Disposition Shop Order.
When selecting disposition shop order as repair order type for a component repair order line, a recommendation is to set a service type as default. This is because material and operations are generated based on the disposition structure and routing. When a disposition line is created the default service type is inherited and, at the same time, all disposition operations and material lines are updated as well. This means that the transactions related to the processing of the disposition will be mapped against the default service type. If no service type is selected as default, each operation and material line must be manually updated in order to avoid transactions without service type connection.
If external service order is selected as repair order type, the default service type is connected to the external service type selected in the External Service Order Info group box in the Process Repair dialog box. This means that the transactions related to the processing of the external service order is mapped against this default service type. It is necessary to select a default service type as otherwise it is impossible to know which service type is to be mapped against the occurring purchase transaction.
