Move Serial from Workshop to Inventory

Explanation

Use this activity as the first step to move a serial object from the repair workshop to inventory. The purpose with moving a serial to inventory is to replace a serial object with another, e.g., a more modern object.

In the Aviation industry, it is a requirement that all components and assemblies that are not installed in a structure are accompanied with a tag that can be used to clearly identify the component or assembly and its current status. This tag, referred to as a serviceability tag, provides detailed information on the status of the component such as serviceability, Time Since New (TSN), Cycles Since New (CSN), Time Since Overhaul (TSO) and Cycles Since Overhaul (CSO) as well as its origins. Through this activity, you can choose to print the tag report when moving the serial object to inventory. 

Prior to moving the serial into inventory you have the option of changing the operational condition of the serial to either Operational or Non Operational.

Procedure

Use the following procedure to move a serial object or a configurable serial object with an existing configuration to inventory:

  1. Open the Report In Work Order window and query (F3) for your repair work order number.
  2. Click the Report In tab and then right-click and click Move Serial to Inventory. The Move Serial to Inventory dialog box opens.
  3. General information on the object to be moved is displayed in the upper part of the dialog box.
  4. In the New Operational Condition field, enter the new operational condition for the serial. Valid values are Operational and Non Operational. Entering a value in this field is optional. Note: If this field is left blank when moving the serial to inventory, the serial will receive its current operational condition.
  5. Select the Print Serviceability Tag check box to order and print the serviceability tag report for the serial being returned to inventory. Note: If the value of the PRNT_SERVICE_TAG_ACS object property (System LU Values/Object Property) is set to TRUE, this check box will be selected by default. The value of this check box can be changed, if needed.
  6. In the Location No field, enter the inventory location to which the serial object is to be moved. Click List to select a valid value.
  7. Click OK.

Use the following procedure to move a configurable serial object without a configuration to inventory:

  1. Open the Report In Work Order window and query (F3) for your repair work order number.
  2. Click the Report In tab and then right-click and click Move Serial to Inventory. Since the object has not got a configuration the Create Configuration window opens.
  3. Enter characteristic values for each of the appropriate Characteristic ID fields. The configuration status needs to be Completed (i.e. all mandatory characteristic values needs to be entered) in order to be able to move the object to inventory. Save and return to the Report In Work Order window.
  4. Right-click and choose the option Move Serial to Inventory again. If the configuration is complete then the Move Serial to Inventory dialog box opens. Otherwise you will need to enter characteristic values for the mandatory Characteristic ID fields that does not have values.
  5. General information on the object to be moved is displayed in the upper part of the dialog box.
  6. In the New Operational Condition field, enter the new operational condition for the serial. Valid values are Operational and Non Operational. Entering a value in this field is optional. Note: If this field is left blank when moving the serial to inventory, the serial will receive its current operational condition.
  7. Select the Print Serviceability Tag check box to order and print the serviceability tag report for the serial being returned to inventory.
