Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these initial exercises is that the instructor will use them for demonstrating the basic functions in Shipment, which entails:

IMPORTANT
These initial exercises are intended for instructor use. If you are a student, it is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Create Shipment

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for creating a Shipment

Prerequisites: N/A

Windows:
Customer Order

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Customer Order window, and create a new record.
  2. Enter the customer C.S.C. Cape Town, either manually or use the List of Values
  3. Enter a wanted delivery date within a week from today (the date in the header will become the default date for all the order lines).
  4. Enter the order type NO.
  5. Select a coordinator from the List of Values.
  6. Save your changes and note the order number: _______________.
  7. Click the Order Lines tab, and create a new order line.
  8. Enter the sales part Street Car, and the sales quantity 6 pieces.
  9. Save your changes.
  10. In the order header, right-click and then click Release. Then click OK in the window that opens. 

Windows:
Shipment

  1. Open the Shipment window and create a new record.
  2. Enter the customer C.S.C. Cape Town, either manually or use the List of Values.
  3. Save your changes. 

Connect Order Lines to the Shipment

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic function of connecting order lines to a shipment. 

Prerequisites: A shipment must have been created, and customer orders and lines must exist in the Released status. 

Windows:
Shipment/Available Order Lines
Shipment/Shipment Lines

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Shipment window and query for the shipment you created above.
  2. Click the Available Order Lines tab. Select the order line, and right-click and then click Connect to Shipment.
  3. Click the Shipment Lines tab; the order line is displayed as a shipment line connected to the shipment. 

Reserve the Shipment

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic function of reserving a complete shipment.

Prerequisites: A shipment must have been created with connected customer order lines. 

Windows:
Shipment

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Shipment window and query for the shipment you created above.
  2. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Reserve. Then click OK in the window that opens.

Note: You can also reserve the shipment lines manually by selecting the line, right-clicking, and then clicking Manual Reservations.  

Create Pick List and Report Picking

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functions of creating a pick list, and reporting picking for a shipment. 

Prerequisites: A shipment must have been reserved.

Windows:
Shipment

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Shipment window and query for the shipment you created above.
  2. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Create Pick List.
  3. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Report Picking. Then click OK in the window that opens.

Note: You can also report picking of shipment lines by using the Report Picking of Customer Order Lines option. 

Complete, Deliver, and Close the Shipment

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functions of completing, delivering and closing a shipment.

Prerequisites: A shipment must have been Pick Reported.

Windows:
Shipment

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Shipment window and query for the shipment you created above.
  2. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Complete.
  3. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Deliver.
  4. In the header of the shipment, right-click and then click Close.  

Note: A shipment cannot be partially delivered. The shipment is always fully delivered although individual order lines connected to the shipment can be partially delivered. It depends on how much you have reported as picked and how much of the order line quantity you have assigned to the shipment.

Note: The Qty to Pick field and the Pick List Lines to Report field on the Shipment Lines tab and the Pick List Lines to Report field on the header, give you an overview of the picking progress of the shipment.

Note: In this exercise, every event in the shipment process was executed manually. However, the shipment type can be used to control whether an event in the shipment process should be executed manually or automatically.
