Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these initial exercise(s) is that the instructor will use them for demonstrating the basic functionality in Manage Returns, which entails:

IMPORTANT
These initial exercises are intended for instructor use.

If you are a student, it is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Enter RMA 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for entering a RMA header and line(s).

Prerequisites:

Sales Part 18–304 Street Car A sufficient number of this part must exist in inventory.

Enter a customer order based on the above information. Use order type QO and sell 8 pieces of Street Car. Save and release  the order.

Windows:
Return Material Authorization

  1. Open the Return Material Authorization window, and create a new record.

  2. Enter customer number 1030 in the Customer No field, either manually or using the List of Values.

  3. Save your changes and note the RMA number: __________________.

  4. Click the Return Material Lines tab, and create a new record.

  5. Enter sales part number 18–304 in the Sales Part No field, either manually or using the List of Values, and enter 20 in the Sales Quantity field. 

  6. Select the return reason from the List of Values. Enter the customer order number created above, either manually or using the List of Values. 

  7. By default, the price is zero. Enter an applicable price for the part.

  8. Save your changes.

Release RMA and Print Return Note

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for releasing an RMA and printing return notes.

Prerequisites: An RMA header and line(s) must have been created. 

Windows:
Return Material Authorization

  1. Open the Return Material Authorization window. 

  2. Search for the previously created RMA. 

  3. In the header portion of the window, right-click and then click Release

  4. Again in the header, right-click and then click Print Return Note.

  5. Click OK in window that appears.

Note: You can view the report before printing by clicking Preview.

Register Received Returns

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for returning material from customers.

Prerequisites: An RMA header and line(s) must have been created and released.

Windows:
Receive Authorized Returns

A complete RMA line has been returned:

  1. Open the Receive Authorized Returns window. Populate it, or query for the appropriate RMA.

  2. Select the appropriate RMA line or lines. Right-click in the lower portion of the window and then click Receive Complete Lines.

  3. Close the window.

Parts of an RMA line have been returned:

  1. Open the Receive Authorized Returns window. Populate it, or query for the appropriate RMA.

  2. Select the appropriate RMA line. Right click in the lower part of the window and then click Receive, Scrap and Return into Inventory.

  3. Under Quantities – Sales/Invent Units, you can choose to enter the received quantity in either a sales or  inventory unit of measure. To use the sales unit of measure, enter the quantity in the New Received field in the upper row. To use the inventory unit of measure, enter the quantity in the New Received field in the lower row.

  4. To save the changes without closing the window, click Apply. The value in the Total Qty Received field will shows the total quantity of the current part that has been entered as received. The value in the Left to Handle field shows the quantity of the current part that has not yet been entered as scrapped or returned to the inventory.

  5. Click OK to save the changes and close the window.

Receive into Inventory

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for returning material to stock.

Prerequisites: An RMA header and line(s) must have been created and released. Also, an RMA must have been registered as received.

Windows:
Receive Authorized Returns

  1. Populate the Receive Authorized Returns window, or query for the appropriate RMA.

  2. Select the appropriate RMA line. Right-click in the lower portion of the window and then click Receive, Scrap and Return into Inventory.

  3. Click the Return into Inventory tab, and select the appropriate line. Specify the inventory location into which you want to return the current part.

  4. In the Transaction Quantity field, specify the quantity of parts that you want to return. You can return parts into multiple inventory locations.

  5. Optionally, enter an expiration date for the returned part in the Expiration Date field.

  6. You can return the parts into an inventory location different from the default. To do this, create a new line, enter the transaction quantity, and specify an inventory location using the List of Values.

  7. Click Apply to confirm the return without closing the window, or click OK to confirm the return and close the window.
