Synchronization—Exercises
Main Exercise
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to
show how to synchronize data between your server and local database.
Windows:
File Menu
Synchronize- Creating a New Local Database
- On the File menu click Synchronize.
The Synchronization Wizard will appear.
- Select Create a new local database.
- Select the database that you created.
Note: If you cannot find the database you created, ask your instructor to create an ODBC Source for you.
- Click Next.
- Select the Race database you wish to synchronize
with and click Next.
- Select All data and select the Include
external data and Include documents check boxes.
- Click Exclude Tables to select which tables you wish to exclude
from the synchronization.
- Click Start to begin synchronization.
- You will get a message once synchronization is
finished successfully.
- On the File menu, click Change database
and logon to your newly created local database. Verify that both data and
documents have been transferred. (For e.g. by searching for Customer 1000
and for the activities you created in the document exercise).
Synchronize - An Existing Local Database
- On the File menu click Synchronize. The
Synchronization Wizard will appear.
- Select Synchronize an existing local
database.
- Your local database will be displayed by default,
but you may change it using the Local Database drop-down list.
- Click Next.
- Select
the Race database you wish to synchronize with
and click Next.
- Select the Include external
data and Include documents check boxes. The value in the
drop-down list will be the same as when you created the local database and
cannot be changed.
- Click Exclude Tables to select which tables you wish to exclude
from the synchronization. You cannot exclude stand-alone, internal or
synchronization replication enabled external tables if you have not excluded
them in the initial synchronization. Previously excluded external tables can
be included, if needed.
- Click Start to begin synchronization.
- You will get a message once synchronization is
finished successfully.
Note: If the same record has been changed in
both the local database and the server database, you will receive a message
saying discrepancies were found and you are given the option to open the
Synchronizer Discrepancy Utility.
