Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to show how to create advanced and three-level selections.

Creating an Additional Relation for a Selection

  1. Go to the Selection and Views pane.
  2. Right-click on Activities and then click Add Selection on the Private selection.
  3. The Add Selection dialog box will be opened.
  4. Name the selection Contacts – Meetings and click Next.
  5. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Activity table.
  6. Click Activity.
  7. In the Activity list, click Meeting.
  8. Click the Equal Sign ( =).
  9. Click and.
  10. Click Relation.
  11. Select Activites.Contact to join the Activities table with the Contacts table. Click OK.
  12. Verify that the criterion Activitiy.Contact == Contact appears in the criteria field. A double equal sign means that the two tables are linked to each other by a cross reference in the contact field.
  13. Click Next.
  14. The New View dialog box will be opened.
  15. Name the view Contact list – meetings. and click OK.
  16. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Activity table.
  17. Double-click End Date, Activity, and Responsible.
  18. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Account table.
  19. Double-click Name.
  20. Click the Plus Sign (+)on the left of the table name to expand the Contact table.
  21. Double-click First Name, Last Name, Job Title, Phone, Fax, Mobile, and E-mail.
  22. Click Finish.
  23. Run the selection by double-clicking the Contact list – meetings view.
  24. Verify that a list of meetings and contact information appear in the Result pane.

Note: Use the Recent Selections toolbar to select from a list of the most recent selections.

Creating a Three-Level Selection

  1. In the Selection and Views pane, create a new private group called Opportunities.
  2. Right click on the group and the click Add Selection.
  3. The Add Selection dialog box will be opened.
  4. Name the selection Opportunity Activities. Click Next.
  5. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Opportunity table and click Status.
  6. In the Status list, click Confirmed Interest.
  7. Click the Equal Sign (=).
  8. Click Next.
  9. The New View dialog box will be opened.
  10. Name the view Opportunities – Activity List and click OK.
  11. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Opportunity table.
  12. Double-click Start Date, Closure Date, Status, Profit, and Contact.
  13. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Opportunity Line table.
  14. Double-click Sales Part No, Quantity and Responsible.
  15. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Account table.
  16. Double-click Name.
  17. Click Finish.
  18. Verify that the Result pane shows the required information.

Using Advanced Selections

  1. On the Selections and Views  pane, use the advanced selection similar to the private and public selections by simply double clicking to run the selection.

Note: This advanced selection is shown only if it has been enabled in Sales & Marketing Administrator.
