Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to introduce you to

Sales and Marketing main window

Log on to Sales and Marketing for the First Time

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for logging on to IFS Sales and Marketing Client.

Launch Application: Sales & Marketing Client

 

  1. Launch the Sales & Marketing Client application.
  2. Enter the username and password that were used for synchronizing the local database initially (i.e., at the time of setting up the training database).
  3. Click Local to access your local database. Select a local database from the list.
  4. Click More to show more details.
  5. Select a database from the list of values. 
  6. Select English Language as the database language.
  7. Click OK to logon.

Note: When you open up Sales & Marketing, you have to perform an initial search in the database to see, for example, accounts in the Result pane.

Applying Settings

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to add settings to your Sales & Marketing installation. In the exercise we will add a default option to a single-choice field, change the date settings so that when adding a new record the system will, by default add the current date, and configure web links.

Windows:
Tools Menu/Settings

  1. On the Tools menu, click Settings.
  2. On the dialog box that appears, on the Configuration tab, click Default Value.
  3. In the Change default values dialog box, select Account in the Table list.
  4. In the Category field, select Prospect and click OK.
  5. In the Change default values dialog box, select the Activity table.
  6. In the Start Date field, enter or select Today's Date and click OK.
  7. Click Close.
  8. On the Configuration tab, click Web Links.
  9. On the dialog box that appears, click Add Links.
  10. Enter Google in the Name field and www.google.com in the Link field.
  11. Click OK and close the dialog box.
  12. Click Apply or OK to save your changes.

Note: Verify that the Category field is set to Prospect when you add a new account, that the date is set to the current date when you add a new activity, and that the entered web link appears in the drop down menu on the Web Links toolbar.

Managing Panes, Toolbars, and Tabs

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show the functionality on how to manage panes and toolbars available in Sales and Marketing.

Windows:
Sales and Marketing/View Menu

  1. On the View menu select or clear the panes and/or toolbars you want to be shown or hidden. A tick indicates that the pane/toolbar is shown on the Sales and Marketing client.
  2. All panes can be moved from its original position to any location. Simply click on the title bar of the pane, drag and drop to wherever you want it.
  3. You can save the layout by clicking Save Layout on the View menu. You can also reset the layout to its original or reset back to your saved layout.
  4. You can sort the information on the Result pane by clicking the header. If you want to sort using multiple fields, right-click on the header of any additional fields.
  5. Right-click on the Result tab area, and click New Result Tab to open a new Result pane. This allows you to retain and work with several search results at the same time.
  6. Right-click on the tab area and click New Web Browser Tab to open a browser tab which allows you to browse to pre-defined web links. Click on the Web Links icon to select which site to browse. Use the back and forward arrows to go back and forth.

Adding and Changing the Password

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to manage passwords.

Windows:
File Menu

  1. Verify that you are using a local database, or log on as a user other than the administrator.
  2. On the File menu, click Change Password.
  3. On the dialog box that opens up, enter the password in the Current Password field.
  4. Enter a new password, verify it, and click OK.
  5. Log off and log on again selecting the Change Database option on the File menu.
  6. Verify that you can not log on as the administrator without entering the password. (e.g, ALAIN/ALAIN)
  7. Log on as the synchronized user with the password you just entered.
  8. Change back the password for the user and verify that it works.
