Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these initial exercises is that the instructor will use them for demonstrating the basic functionality in Sales and Marketing, which entails:

IMPORTANT
These initial exercises are intended for instructor use.
If you are a student, it is extremely important that you log on to a local Oracle database to maintain your data integrity. If you work on a server database, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require your data to be isolated in your own local database. To install the local database you need to contact the System Administrator.

Log on to Sales and Marketing for the First Time

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for logging on to IFS Sales and Marketing.

Launch Application: Sales & Marketing Client

 

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Launch the Sales & Marketing Client application.
  2. Enter the username and password that were used for synchronizing the local database initially (i.e., at the time of setting up the training database).
  3. Click Local to access your local database.
  4. Click More to show more details.
  5. Select a database from the list of values.
  6. Select English Language as the database language.
  7. Click OK to log on.

Note: When you open up Sales & Marketing, you have to perform an initial search in the database to see, for example, accounts in the Result pane.

Add and Edit Account Information

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for entering a new account and editing account information.

Windows:

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Click the Account.Name button on the menu bar to obtain a list of accounts on the Result pane.
  2. Right-click in the Result pane and click Add. A dialog box appears.
  3. Enter information such as Name, Address, Country etc. for a new account. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
  4. Click OK to save the information and close the dialog box.
  5. Verify that the account you entered appears in the Result pane.
  6. To edit account information, select the relevant account from the Result pane.
  7. Right-click and click Edit.
  8. On the dialog box that opens up, edit the necessary information and select OK to save the changes.

Note: Alternatively, to add a account you can use the Add option on the toolbar and select Account.

Add a New Contact

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for entering a new contact.

Windows:
Relation View panes/Contacts
Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Click the Account.Name button on the menu bar to obtain a list of accounts in the Result pane.
  2. Select BMW as your account.
  3. In the Relation View panes, right-click on the Contacts tab/folder and click Add.
  4. On the dialog box that appears enter John Harvey-Jones as the contact name and CEO as the job role.
  5. Add other relevant information.
  6. Click OK to save the information and close the window.

Note: Alternatively to add a contact you can click File, point to Add and select Contact from the list or simply press the relevant key. You can also use the Add option on the toolbar and select Contact.

Using the Quick Search Function to Find Account and Contact Information

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show how to find information by using predefined search fields as part of a quick search.

Windows:

  1. In the Quick Search list, select Account Name.
  2. Search for the account Customer 1000 by entering 'Customer 1000' in the Quick Search field. Then click Quick Search.
  3. Verify that the account Customer 1000 appears in the Result pane.
  4. In the Quick Search list, select Contact Name.
  5. Search for the contact DeFreitas Jorge by entering DeFreitas in the Quick Search box. Then click Quick Search.
  6. Verify that the information about DeFreitas Jorge appears in the Result pane and that the information about the account he is working for Customer 1000 appears in the Relation View panes.
