Introduction to Campaign Management—Exercises

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to introduce basic campaign management routines.

Creating a Campaign

  1. In the Selections and Views pane, right-click on Private and then click Add group.
  2. The Add Group dialog box will be opened. Verify that the category is Private.
  3. Enter Campaign as the group name and click OK.
  4. Right-click on your private group Campaign and click Add selection.
  5. The Add Selection dialog box will be opened. In the Selection field, enter IT Fair Target Group as the name of the selection. Click Next.
  6. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Contact table and click Job Role.
  7. In the Job Role list, click IT.
  8. Click the Equal Sign (=).
  9. In the criteria field, verify that the criterion Contact.JobRole=IT appears and click Next.
  10. The New View dialog box will be opened. In the View field, enter IT Managers – Address list. Click OK.
  11. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Contact table.
  12. In the Contact table, double-click First Name, Last Name, Phone, Fax, Mobile, and E-mail.
  13. Verify that the above mentioned fields appear in the view field to the right.
  14. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Company table.
  15. In the Company table, double-click Name, Address 1, Post Code, City, and Country.
  16. Verify that the fields appear in the view field to the right along with the contact information.

Note: The view of the selection has to include the name of the contact, and the contact information has to be placed first in the view.

  1. Click Finish.
  2. In the Selections and Views pane, click the Plus Sign (+) in front of the Campaign group to expand the group.
  3. Click the Plus Sign (+) in front of the IT Fair Target Group selection to expand the selection.
  4. Double-click IT Managers Address list. The details of the IT Managers will be displayed.
  5. Right-click in the Result pane, point to Send to and Campaign Guide, and then click New.
  6. The Campaign Guide dialog box will be opened. Select the All rows check box.
  7. In the Select an existing or enter a new campaign field, enter IT Fair as the campaign name.
  8. In the Enter Campaign activity field, enter IT Fair Invitation and click Next.
  9. In the Activity list, click Mailing.
  10. Enter a start date in the Start date field and an end date in the End date field.
  11. In the Response field list, click Not Responded.
  12. Click Next and verify that the summary is correct.
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Repeat steps 18-29 but this time, in the Enter Campaign activity field, enter IT Fair Invitation 2.
  15. Verify that the activities appear in the Campaign tab for the selected accounts.

Updating a Campaign

  1. On the Tools menu, select Campaigns. A dialog box appears.
  2. On the Select an existing campaign list, click IT Fair.
  3. On the Select a related campaign activity list, click IT Fair Invitation.
  4. Select the Update affected campaign activities check box.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Done field, click Yes.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Verify that the summary is correct.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Verify that the activities in the Campaign tab is updated.

Deleting an Activity Connected to a Campaign

  1. On the Tools menu, select Campaigns. A dialog box appears.
  2. On the Select an existing campaign list, click IT Fair.
  3. On the Select a related campaign activity list, click IT Fair Invitation 2.
  4. Select the Delete affected activities check box.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Verify that the summary is correct.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Verify that the related activities in the Campaign tab is deleted.

Adding a Contact to a Campaign

  1. On the Contacts tab of the Relation View tabbed pane, add a contact with the Job Role IT to the account Volvo Cars.
  2. Click the Campaigns tab.
  3. Right-click and then click Add.
  4. In the dialog box that appears, enter IT Fair in the Campaign list.
  5. In the same dialog box, enter IT Fair Invitation in the Description list, and in the Contact list click the contact you just inserted.
  6. Click OK to save.
  7. Verify that a campaign activity for Volvo Cars has been created.

Activity Guide

  1. If you already have a selection and view called IT Fair Target Group and IT Managers Address List respectively, move on to step 19. Otherwise continue with step 2.

Adding a selection and view for activity guide:

  1. In the Selections and Views pane, right-click on Private and then click Add group.
  2. The Add Group dialog box will be opened. Verify that the category is Private.
  3. Enter Campaign in the Selection group field and click OK.
  4. Right-click on your private group Campaign and click Add selection.
  5. In the Selection field, enter IT Fair Target Group as the name of the selection. Click Next.
  6. Click the Plus Sign (+) on the left of the table name to expand the Contact table. Click Job Role.
  7. In the Job Role list, click IT.
  8. Click the Equal Sign (=).
  9. In the criteria field, verify that the criterion Contact.Job Role=IT appears and click Next.
  10. The New View dialog box will be opened. In the View field, enter IT Managers – Address list and click OK.
  11. Click the Plus Sign (+) left of the table name to expand the Contact table.
  12. In the Contact table, double-click First Name, Last Name, Phone, Fax, Mobile, and E-mail.
  13. Verify that the fields appear in the view field to the right.
  14. Click the Plus Sign (+) left of the table name to expand the Company table.
  15. In the Company table, double-click Name, Address 1, Postal Code, City, and Country.
  16. Verify that the fields appear in the view field to the right along with the contact information.

Note: The view of the selection has to include the name of the contact, and the contact information has to be placed first in the view.

  1. Click Finish.
  2. In the Selections and Views pane, click the Plus Sign (+) in front of the Campaign group to expand the group.
  3. Click the Plus Sign (+) in front of the IT Fair Target Group to expand the selection.
  4. Double-click IT Managers Address list.

Activity Guide:

  1. Right-click in the Result pane, point to Send to and Activity Guide, and then click New.
  2. Activity Guide dialog box will be opened. Select the All rows check box.
  3. In the Select an existing or enter a new campaign field, enter Conference as the activity name.
  4. In the Enter campaign activity field, enter IFS S&M Conference and click Next.
  5. In the Activity list, click E-mail.
  6. Enter a start date in the Start date field and an end date in the End date field.
  7. In the Done field, click Yes.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Verify that the summary is correct and click Finish.
  10. Verify that the activities appear in the Activities tab/folder for the selected accounts.
