Setting Up Quality Inspection—Basic Data and Requirements Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to show you how to set up the basic data that is required when performing quality inspections, i.e., inspection codes, scrapping causes, return causes, and quality control analysts.

Entering an Inspection Code

  1. Open the Inventory Basic Data window, click the Inspection Codes tab, and populate (F2). Take a look at the previously defined inspection codes.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. In the Inspection Code field, enter a short code for the new inspection code.
  4. Enter a description of the inspection code in the Inspection Code Description field.
  5. In the Inspection Type list, click either Percent or Quantity, to indicate whether the inspected quantity of parts should be specified as a percentage of the received quantity or as a fixed quantity.
  6. Enter the percentage or fixed quantity that should be inspected in the Inspection Percentage/Quantity field.
  7. Save the changes (F12).

Entering a Scrapping Cause

  1. Open the Scrapping Causes window, and populate (F2). Take a look at the previously defined scrapping causes.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. In the Scrapping Cause ID field, enter an ID for the new scrapping cause.
  4. Enter a description of the scrapping cause in the Scrapping Cause Description field.
  5. If you will be using the scrapping cause in Shop Floor Reporting, where scrapping is reported using a Reg Time terminal, enter a numerical ID in the Terminal Code field.
  6. Save the changes (F12).

Entering a Return Cause

  1. Open the Return Causes window, and populate (F2). Take a look at the previously defined scrapping causes.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. In the Return Reason field, enter a short code for the new return cause.
  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the return cause in the field with the same name.
  5. Save the changes (F12).

Entering a Quality Control Analyst

IFS Racing has employed a new person who will work as a quality control analyst and you are the person who should enter this in IFS Applications.

The quality control analyst for your user already exists in the database. To able to enter a quality control analyst, you need to select another user from the cross-reference table (click the link). Example: If your alias is racing driver ALAIN, you should enter a new record for JOAL.

  1. Open the Procurement Basic Data window and click the QC Analysts tab.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. In the Quality Control Analyst ID field, select the person from the List of Values. The QC Analyst field is automatically filled in.
  4. Optionally, select the Blocked for Use check box to block the QC analyst from further use.
  5. Save the changes (F12).
