Required Data

Set Budget as Active Project Budget

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can perform the exercises below.

  1. Set project budgets as active project budgets for 2 projects.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to enable budget control for a project, define a budget control rules manually and by using the wizard.

Enabling Budget Control

  1. Open the Project window and query for the first project for which you defined a budget, right-click and click Enable/Disable Budget Control.
  2. Right-click and click Control as Budgeted.
  3. Open the Project Budget Control Rules window, query for the project and view the control rules.

Defining Budget Control Rules Manually

  1. Open the Project Budget Control Rules List window.
  2. Click New to create a new record.
  3. Leave the Project ID, Sub project ID and Activity ID fields blank to create a general rule for the company.
  4. In the Cost Element field, use the List of Values and select LABOR.
  5. In the Account field, select 1400.
  6. Click Save.

Defining Budget Control Rules using Wizard

  1. Open the Define Budget Control Rules Assistant.
  2. In the Company field, click List to select the company to which you belong.
  3. In the Project field, click List to select the second project budget for which you set an active budget.
  4. In the Existing Rules group of fields, select Override Existing Rules.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the upper part of the wizard, select the MAT cost element.
  7. Click Finish.

Controlling as Budgeted

  1. Open the Project window and query for the one of the projects.
  2. Select the row, right-click and then click Enable/Disable Budget Control to enable budget control.
  3. Select the row, right-click and then click Control As Budgeted.
  4. Repeat for the other project.
