-
Defining Inventory Parts

IMPORTANT |
These Initial Exercises are intended for
instructor use.
If you are a student, it is extremely important
that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your
data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will
compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other
students. Predictable exercise results require that your data
be isolated in your own site. |
Defining Inventory Parts
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you
to the basic functionality for defining inventory parts in the project product
structure.
Prerequisites: Standard planned project items must exist in the project
site.
Windows:
Project Product
Project Product/Items
Inventory Part
Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps in the
sequence shown.
- Open the
Project Product window.
- Query (F3) for project PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project).
- On the Items tab, note the parts in the project product
structure for which the Inventory Part check box is checked. These parts
already exist as inventory parts.
- Select these parts, and then right-click. Note that the Transfer Inventory
Part option appears dimmed because the parts already
exist in inventory.
- Select these parts again, right-click, and then click Inventory Part
Info. The
Inventory Part window appears.
- Note the parameters that are set for the parts.
Running the Gross Requirements Calculation (GRC)
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce
you to the basic functionality for performing the gross requirements calculation
(GRC) for
a delivery project.
Windows:
Project Product
Project Product/Items
Project Product/Demand/MPL
Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps in the
sequence shown.
- Open the
Project Product window.
- Query (F3) for project PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project).
- On the Items tab, review the parts in the structure.
- Click the Demand tab and then the
MPL tab.
Because the GRC has
been performed once, the parts to be procured for the delivery
project already appear on the tab.
- Perform the GRC again by right-clicking and then clicking Calculate Gross
Requirements. In the dialog box that appears, click OK. Note that
the same parts as before appear on the tab. However, in the Date
Created field, you will see that the date has changed to today's date.
Running MRP to Create Requisitions
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce
you to the basic functionality for running MRO to create requisitions for
standard planned items in the project product structure.
Windows:
Project Product
Project Product/Items
Project Product/Demand/MPL
Perform MRP
Steps:
To complete this exercise, perform the following steps in the
sequence shown.
- Open the
Project Product window.
- Query (F3) for project PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project).
- On the Items tab, review the standard planned items in the
structure, e.g., 20–130 (Electric System 1600).
- Click the Demand tab and then the
MPL tab.
Because the GRC has
been performed once, the parts to be procured for the delivery
project already appear on the tab.
- Open the Perform
site MRP window.
- Do not run MRP by clicking Cancel. This is because MRP has already
been run for Site 1. If it was not run before, running it on site 1 will
result in requisitions (purchase and shop order) created for the standard
planned items.
Creating Project Purchase Requisitions
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce
you to the basic functionality for creating a purchase requisition for a project-specific purchased item.
Prerequisite: Project activities connected to the project specific parts
must be released.
Windows:
Project Product
Project Product/Items
Project Product/Demand/MPL
Project Product/Supply/Procured
Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps in the
sequence shown.
- Open the
Project Product window.
- Query (F3) for project PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project).
- On the Items tab, verify that part 20–110 (Engine Block
1600)
is a project-specific item, i.e., the Std Planned Item check box has
not been checked for this part.
- Click the Demand tab and then the
MPL tab.
Because the GRC has been run once, the parts required by the
delivery project already appear.
- Select part 20–110, and then right-click. The Create Request option
normally would be used to create a purchase requisition for the part. However,
this option appears dimmed because a request
has already been created for it.
- Click the Supply tab and then click the
Procured
tab.
- Review the created purchase requisition details for the part, e.g.,
purchase requisition number and status.
Creating Project Shop Orders
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce
you to the basic functionality for creating a purchase order for a project-specific manufactured item.
Prerequisite: Project activities connected to the project specific parts
must be released.
Windows:
Project Product
Project Product/Items
Project Product/Demand/MPL
Project Product/Supply/Procured
Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps in the
sequence shown.
- Open the
Project Product window.
- Query (F3) for project PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project).
- On the Items tab, make sure that part 20–100 (Engine 1600)
is a project-specific item, i.e., the Std Planned Item check box
should not be checked for this part.
- Click the Demand tab and then the
MPL
tab. Because the GRC has been performed once, all the parts required by the
delivery project already appear.
- Select part 20–100, and then right-click. The Create Request
option normally would be used to create a shop order for the part. However,
this option appears dimmed because a request
has already been created for it.
- Click the Supply tab and then click the
Procured
tab.
- Review the created shop order details for the part, e.g., shop order
number and status.
Note: These initial exercises are connected to the initial exercises
found in the third and last main process in Project Delivery, called Assemble
and Test Project Delivery Product.
