Managing Maintenance Order Material Demands—Exercises

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create material demands for a maintenance order before it is released. You will learn how to view, add, remove, reserve, unreserve, peg and unpeg material demands for a maintenance order. You will also learn how to re-initiate material demands for a maintenance order.

Prerequisites: Verify that the following prerequisites are fulfilled:

View Maintenance Order Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to view the material required for a maintenance order.

Windows:
Maintenance Order/Maint. Order Str./Material Required
Maintenance Order/Exec. Logic/Material Required

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. If the distribution type is set to Work Order or Simplified Work Order, click the Maint. Order Str. tab and then click the Material Required sub tab. If the distribution type is set to Execution Logic Structure, click the Exec. Logic tab and then click the Material Required sub tab.
  3. View the information. The materials displayed in this tab are connected to the operations (instructions or subtasks) in the visit scope.

Release Material Demands

Purpose: Once the scope of the maintenance visit is defined, material demands can be created for the maintenance order before a work order is generated for the visit. The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to release the material demand for the maintenance order. As a result, a material demand is created for each material requirement in the scope.

Prerequisites: The maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status and have valid material requirements (in the Material Required sub tab). The Material Demand Released check box should not be selected.

Windows:
Maintenance Order

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. Right-click and click Release Material Demands.
  3. Click the Order tab and verify that the Material Demand Released check box is now selected.
  4. Navigate to the following windows and verify that the maintenance order demand is created:

Reserve Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to manually reserve material demands for a maintenance order. When manually reserving demands it is you and not the system that will determine how many parts should be reserved for the maintenance order. Note that you cannot reserve more parts than what is required on the particular order line.

Prerequisites: The maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status and have valid material requirements (in the Material Required sub tab). Verify that the Material Demand Released check box is selected for the maintenance order.

Windows:
Maintenance Order/Maint. Order Str./Material Required
Maintenance Order/Exec. Logic/Material Required

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. Depending on the distribution type for the maintenance order, click the appropriate Material Required sub tab.
  3. Select the part line you wish to reserve, right-click and then click Reserve Manually. The Manual Reservation dialog box opens.
  4. In the Reserve Quantity field, enter the quantity you want reserved.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Verify that the quantity you entered is displayed in the Qty Reserved field for the relevant part line in the Material Required sub tab.

Unreserve Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to unreserve material demands for a maintenance order. If you have reserved a part for a maintenance order, you can remove that reservation prior to releasing the maintenance order by manually entering the quantity to unreserve.

Prerequisites: The maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status and have valid material requirements (in the Material Required sub tab). Material reservations must exist. Verify that the Material Demand Released check box is selected for the maintenance order.

Windows:
Maintenance Order/Maint. Order Str./Material Required
Maintenance Order/Exec. Logic/Material Required

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. Depending on the distribution type for the maintenance order, click the appropriate Material Required sub tab.
  3. Select the part line you wish to unreserve, right-click and then click Unreserve. The Unreserve Part dialog box opens.
  4. In the Unreserve Qty field, enter the quantity to unreserve.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Verify that the quantity has reduced by the given amount in the Qty Reserved field for the relevant part line in the Material Required sub tab.

Peg Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to peg material demands to an existing supply. You can view which lines are available and then decide which of them should be connected. The purpose behind this connection is to automatically allocate supplies to the pegged demand when the supplies are received.

Prerequisites: The maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status and have valid material requirements (in the Material Required sub tab). Verify that the Material Demand Released check box is selected for the maintenance order.

Windows:
Maintenance Order/Maint. Order Str./Material Required
Maintenance Order/Exec. Logic/Material Required
Pegged Maintenance Order Material Lines

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. Depending on the distribution type for the maintenance order, click the appropriate Material Required sub tab.
  3. Select the part line you wish to peg, right-click and then click Manual Pegging. The Manual Pegging of Maintenance Order Material Lines window opens with all purchase orders that are available to be pegged (and unpegged) against the demand line.
  4. In the Qty Pegged field, enter the quantity you want to peg against the purchase order line.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Verify the pegging by checking the value in the Qty Pegged field for the relevant part line in the Material Required sub tab and/or the Pegged Maintenance Order Material Lines window.

Unpeg Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to remove pegged material demands by un-pegging them from the existing supply.

Prerequisites: The maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status and have valid material requirements (in the Material Required sub tab). Pegged materials must exist. Verify that the Material Demand Released check box is selected for the maintenance order.

Windows:
Maintenance Order/Maint. Order Str./Material Required
Maintenance Order/Exec. Logic/Material Required
Pegged Maintenance Order Material Lines

  1. Open the Maintenance Order window and query (F3) for your maintenance order.
  2. Depending on the distribution type for the maintenance order, click the appropriate Material Required sub tab.
  3. Select the part line you wish to unpeg, right-click and then click Manual Pegging. The Manual Pegging of Maintenance Order Material Line window opens with all purchase orders available to be (pegged and) unpegged against the demand line.
  4. In the Qty Pegged field, enter a quantity smaller in value than the value already pegged.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Verify the pegging removal by checking the value in the Qty Pegged field for the relevant part line in the Material Required sub tab and/or the Pegged Maintenance Order Material Lines window.

Re-initiate Material Demands

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to re-initiate material demands for a maintenance order. This is usually done when the material requirement scope of the maintenance order has changed.

Prerequisites: The tasks on the maintenance order must be in the Under Preparation status. Verify that the Material Demand Released check box is selected for the maintenance order.

  4. The Re-initiate Material Demand dialog box opens.
  5. Select the Keep Reservations and Peggings check box if you want to keep all existing reservations and peggings for the task.
  6. Click OK.
