Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these initial exercises is to enable the instructor to demonstrate the basic functionality of PM Processing, which includes:

Create Separate PM Action

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for planning and preparing separate PM actions. This will help to familiarize you with the preventive maintenance process.

Prerequisites: The table below lists all data needed to perform this initial exercise.

Separate PM Action

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Separate PM Action window.
  2. Create a new separate PM action (F5). The PM revision is defaulted to 1.
  3. Select an object ID, action, and maintenance organization using the List of Values (F8).
  4. Save the new separate PM action (F12).
  5. Click the Operations tab, and create a new record (F5).
  6. Enter an operation number, e.g., 10.
  7. Enter a description of the task to be performed. 
  8. Select a maintenance organization and a craft using the List of Values (F8). 
  9. Enter the planned number of persons, and the planned number of hours per person.
  10. Save the new record (F12).
  11. Click the Materials tab, and create a new record (F5).
  12. Select a part and the planned quantity using the List of Values (F8).
  13. Save the new row (F12). 
  14. Click the Tools and Facilities tab, and create a new record (F5).
  15. Select a tool and facility type using List of Values (F8). It's also possible to enter a tool and facility ID using List of Values (F8).
  16. Enter the quantity and planned hours of the tool/facility that will be used for the PM action.
  17. Save the new row (F12).
  18. Right-click, click PM Action Status and then click Active.
  19. To generate a separate PM action, right-click and then click Generate Work Order

Note: This method is generally used only when you have a few PM actions to generate. When you have many of them, it is more efficient to automatically generate the separate PM actions using one or more generation types (calendar, criteria, and event) and thereafter generate the PM actions. To learn more about generating several separate/route PM actions, see the Generation Criteria exercise below.

PM Actions for Route List

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for planning and preparing route PM actions. This will help to familiarize you with the preventive maintenance process.

PM Actions for Route List

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

Note: In the PM Actions for Route List window, you can enter route general PM actions and link them to a route list. Enter PM actions that put lower demands on preparation. Once you have entered a general route PM action in this window, you can prepare it and link more information to it in the Route PM Action window.

  1. Open the PM Actions for Route List window.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. Enter the following new route ID: IN.
  4. Enter the following description: Inspection Route.
  5. In the table, create a new record (F5).
  6. Select an object in the Object ID field using the List of Values (F8).
  7. Select the action and the maintenance organization that will execute the work. Use List of Values (F8).
  8. Save the new row (F12). The row becomes a unique PM number with default revision 1.
  9. Right-click, click PM Action Status and then click Active.
  10. Enter at least one additional row.

Note: Once you have entered at least two rows, select one or more of them, right-click, and then click Prepare. The Route PM Action window appears. You can use this window to prepare the route PM actions further.

Create Route PM Action

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for planning and preparing route PM actions. This will help to familiarize you with the preventive maintenance process.

Prerequisites: The table below lists all data needed to perform this initial exercise.

Route PM Action

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Route PM Action window.
  2. Query (F3) for the route ID that you entered in the exercise above.
  3. On this route PM action, you need some material. Click the Materials tab, and create a new record (F5).
  4. Select a part and the planned quantity using the List of Values (F8).
  5. Save the new row (F12). 
  6. Click the Budget tab. All the costs on this route are displayed on this tab.
  7. Click the General tab, and verify that the route PM action is set to Generatable.

Generation Criteria 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the basic functionality for generating PM actions. There are three generation criteria: calendar, criteria, and event. This initial exercise shows you calendar generation.

Prerequisites: The table below lists all data needed to perform this initial exercise.

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Separate PM Action window.
  2. Query (F3) for the separate PM action that you entered in the exercise above.
  3. Click the General tab. Enter the criteria for calendar generation in the Calendar fields, as shown in the table below:

  1. Save the new information (F12).

Note: The Maintenance Plan tab gives you an overview of when the PM actions will be generated.

  1. Open the Calendar Generation window.
  2. Enter 0201 as the week for which you want to generate work orders.
  3. Select the maintenance organization on which you want to generate actions using the List of Values.
  4. Click OK to confirm. A work order has been created.
  5. Open the Active Work Orders window.
  6. Query (F3) for the work order. Hint: Enter your PM action number as the search criterion. The generated work order appears.

Note: The generated separate PM actions can be found in the Active Work Orders window. The route PM actions can be found in the Active Routes window.
