Tips and Tricks for Data Acquisition with OPC

Below is a list of tips and tricks for the Data Acquisition with OPC course. Click one of the items below to see information that may be helpful to you as you take the course.

Verifying Extended Server Permissions

To be able to configure the OPC Client to access the extended server's activity APIs, you need you need to ensure that the user you are using, has permissions set up against the required activity API in the Solution Manager.

Follow the instructions below to verify that the user you are using in the OPC Client has sufficient permissions. The instructions are written for the solution manager for IFS Applications 7.5 and for user Alain.

Note: If you can’t follow the instructions below, user Alain probably does not have permissions to administer user and security rights in the Solution Manager. If that is the case, ask a system administrator for assistance. (in local RACE-installations ifsadmin/internal usually works)

1.       Start the solution manager and log on as a system administrator (usually Alain/Alain works for standard RACE-environments – both for Applications 7 and 7.5)

2.       Navigate to IFS Solution Manager -> Administration -> Users -> Explore Users -> By Name -> A.

3.       Double click Alain Prost in the list of users.

4.       In the User Settings tab, open up the branch Security Settings -> Permission Sets.

5.        In the open branch, you can see what permission sets that are granted to the selected user indicated by selected check boxes – for example FND_NORMAL is granted to user ALAIN.

6.       If you want to see the content of a permission set to see whether a certain method is part of it, select the permission set and click the View/Edit Permission Set IFSAPP_NORMAL link.

7.       Open the Security Administration Permission Set window, and select the Activities tab.

8.       The tree presents all activities, and their grant status in the permission set. E.g. open up the IFS Base Functionality branch and verify that BrowseJ2eeMetaData activity is selected (this activity is required for browsing activities in the extended server from the OPC Client). If the required activity is not granted in the desired permission set, you can select it on the list and refresh the security cache.
