Initial Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of the initial exercises is for the instructor to use them for demonstrating the basic features when defining new NATO codification standards. In this example, we will define a new stock number for an engine. These exercises cover the sub-processes:

If you are a student, it is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. 

Create NATO Supply Classification codes

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn about NATO supply classification codes (NCS), and how to register a new NCS code.

Windows:
NATO Codification Standards Basic Data

  1. Open the NATO Codification Standards Basic Data window and click the Supply Classification tab
  2. Create a new record (F5) and enter the NATO supply classification Code 1004 (Engine).
  3. Save the information (F12).

Define NATO Stock Number

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create a NATO stock number for the engine. 

Prerequisites: Requires that the previous exercise has been completed.

Windows:
NATO Stock Numbers

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the NATO Stock Numbers window.
  2. Create new record and enter the supply code 1004.
  3. Specify additional data:
    - NATO item identification number (NIIN) -  001212121. Must be exactly 9 numbers.
    - Stock number description - Turbo Engine.
  4. Save the information (F12). The NATO stock number is created automatically by the system with the supply code and NIIN. 

Connect NATO Stock Number to Part Number

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to connect a part number to the above created NATO stock number. 

Prerequisites: Requires that the previous exercise has been completed.

Windows:

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the NATO Stock Number window
  2. Query(F3) for the NATO stock number 1004001212121 or use 1004%.
  3. Create a new record on the Parts tab.
  4. Enter your part number X72ENG7010 manually, or use the List of Values.
  5. Save the information (F12).
  6. If this is the preferred part for the NATO stock number, select the row, right-click and then click Set Preferred Part.
    Note that a new value appears in the Modified field.

History tracking of NATO Stock Number

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to modify the stock number to create history logging. This is done by modifying the supply code or the NIIN.

Prerequisites: Requires that the previous exercise has been completed.

Windows:
NATO Stock Numbers

Steps:  To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the NATO Stock Numbers window.
  2. Query (F3) for the NATO stock number 1004001212121.
  3. Update the NIIN by changing 1 (the last number) to 4.
  4. Save the record (F12).
  5. Select the row, right-click and then click NATO Stock Number Details.
  6. Go to the History tab and verify that a history record has been created.
  7. In the NATO Stock Number History window, you can view history information on many stock numbers at the same time

Query - Mismatch between part number and stock number

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to understand why records appear in this window. 

Windows:

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Sales Part window.
  2. Query (F3) for the sales part number X72ENG7010-S, and note that the part number for the inventory part is different
  3. Open the Part and Stock Numbers Mismatch window.
  4. Populate the window (F2).
  5. Look at the sales part number and the part number. The mismatch exists because only one of them (X72ENG7010) is connected to a stock number. 
  6. Open the NATO Stock Number window and query (F3) for the NATO stock number 1004001212124.
  7. Also connect the sales part X72ENG7010-S to the stock number by creating a new record on the Parts tab.
  8. Open the Part and Stock Numbers Mismatch window, and populate (F2) the window.
  9. No mismatch exists since both the sales part number and the inventory part number are connected to the same stock number.

Define NCAGE

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to create an NCAGE.

Windows:
NATO Commercial and Government Entities

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the NATO Commercial and Government Entities window.
  2. Create a new record, specifying the NCAGE code 1GE11 (General Electric).
  3. Enter the country code US. (Optional.)
  4. Select the US Entity check box. This checks weather the first and last character of the NCAGE is numeric. 
  5. Save the information (F12).

Connect Object to NCAGE

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to connect an existing registered manufacturer to your created NCAGE.

Prerequisites: Requires that the previous exercise has been completed.

Windows:
Manufacturers
NATO Commercial and Government Entities

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Manufacturers window.
  2. Search for existing manufacturers.
  3. Select the manufacturer GE and then click the Attachments panel.
  4. Click NATO Commercial and Government Entities.
  5. Right-click on the field and then click New. The New NATO Commercial and Government Entity dialog box opens.
  6. Enter your NCAGE ID.
  7. Click OK.
  8. To verify, right-click on the connected NCAGE and then click NATO Commercial and Government Entity.
  9. Click the Connected Objects tab, and check whether the manufacturer has been connected correctly.
