Course Description for Manage Master Configuration

This course gives the student an understanding of how to create parts and part revisions to be used in a template structure. The student will learn how to create new parts and build template structures. The attendees will also be introduced to predefined queries and history data that is retained in IFS/Vehicle Information Management (IFS/VIM) and get a quick introduction to background jobs aimed to keep the data base healthy.

Course Length

The estimated time to complete this course is 11 hours.

Target Audience

This course was designed primarily for engineers being responsible for configuration, engineering and life-cycle follow-up of complex, serialized products. Maintenance planning and operation staff should be able to use the structures as background for their work, but should rarely create or modify structures by themselves.

Serial Part Information

This chapter is where you learn how to create new engineering parts and part revisions. These parts are used to build template structures from which you create serial structures (in the Manage Serialized Configuration course).

Prerequisites

Before taking the lessons in this chapter, you should have completed a basic navigation course in IFS Applications. There would also be a great advantage if you had been through a dedicated course in PDM-Configuration.

Chapter Length

The estimated time to complete this chapter is 2 hours.

Target Audience

This chapter was designed primarily for configuration managers and engineers with responsibility to define new structures and maintain existing structures during a product's life cycle.

Serial Structure Template

This chapter is where you use the created parts to build template structures.

In lesson Template Structure - Key you will use the parts to create template structures. You will learn how to build a structure top-down step by step. You also learn how to take advantage of copying from existing structures.

In lesson Template Structure - Extended you will learn how to define alternates and dependencies, change the prime part of a structure position and add or remove a structure position. You will also learn how to build a structure by importing a product structure, create a structure from a branch of an existing template structure and phase out a configuration.

Prerequisites

Before taking the lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the previous chapter on how to create serial parts.

Chapter Length

The estimated time to complete this chapter is 7 hours.

Target Audience

This chapter was designed primarily for configuration managers and engineers with responsibility to define new structures and maintain existing structures during a product's life cycle.

Data Access Control

This chapter is aimed at introducing you to the data access control functionality in IFS/Vehicle Information Management (IFS/VIM). You will learn how to establish access rights for users and extend the access rights to parts in a template structure. The lesson in this chapter also covers the process for granting or revoking access to the serials in a serial structure that is generated from a template structure. The Manage Serialized Configuration course details the generation and handling of serial structures.

Prerequisites

Before taking the lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the previous chapters on how to create serial parts and template structures.

Chapter Length

The estimated time to complete this chapter is 1hours.

Target Audience

This chapter was designed primarily for configuration managers and engineers with responsibility to define new structures and maintain existing structures during a product's life cycle.

Analysis

This chapter presents the different types of historical information relevant to the Manage Master Configuration process that is generated and retained in IFS/VIM.

Prerequisites

Before taking the lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the previous chapters on how to create serial parts and template structures.

Chapter Length

The estimated time to complete this chapter is 0.5 hours.

Target Audience

This chapter was designed primarily for configuration managers and engineers with responsibility to define new structures and maintain existing structures during a product's life cycle. Maintenance personnel executing jobs may find the predefined queries and the history retained in IFS/VIM to be of great value and help when executing daily work.

Background Jobs

IFS/VIM consists of a number of background jobs. Some are aimed to automate Due Calculations and reduce the amount of user intensive processes, while others are used for the shape-up of the database.

Prerequisites

Before taking the lessons in this chapter, you should have an overall knowledge of the solution.

Chapter Length

The estimated time to complete this chapter is 0.5 hours.

Target Audience

This chapter was designed for maintenance program managers and work planners, and senior technicians who has to monitor the flow of maintenance related information between the different databases in a distributed system environment.
