Manage Master Configuration—Basic Data and Requirements Exercise

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn about the basic data used when defining parts and template structures in IFS/VIM (IFS/Vehicle Information Management).

Operational Parameter

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn about operational parameters and their importance in part operation and maintenance.

Windows:
Configuration Basic Data

  1. Open the Configuration Basic Data window and click the Operational Parameter tab.
  2. Create a new record (F5) and enter an operational parameter nCYCL to be used for counting A/C takeoff/landing cycles.
  3. Do not select any of the check boxes.
  4. Save the information (F12).
  5. Create a new operational parameter called nENGHR. This parameter will be used as estimated engine hours based on flying time nENGHR is calculated by adding 20% to the flying time (FHR). Define a formula, but do not select any of the check boxes.
  6. Save the information (F12).
  7. Select the last record, right-click and click Test Formula.
  8. Test that your formula works correctly. 

Establish an Access Group

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create an access group for a maintenance provider, who will carry out the maintenance on the serials you will create in later exercises. Here, you will also create another access group that will only be used to show you how to remove an access group.

Windows:
Establish Access Group

  1. Open the Establish Access Group window.
  2. Create a new record (F5).
  3. Enter the access group ID nMAINTPROVIDER with a description.
  4. Create another record (F5).
  5. Specify nTEMP for the access group ID.
  6. Enter a suitable description for the new access group.
  7. Save the records (F12).

Note: When a new access group is saved, the application owner and the logged-on user will automatically become members of the access group.

Connect Users to Access Group - 1

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to connect users to an access group.

Windows:
Establish Access Group

  1. Open the Establish Access Group window.
  2. Query (F3) for the required access group.
  3. Create a new record (F5) to directly enter the user(s) you want to connect to the access group.
  4. In the User ID field, enter the user. Use the List of Values to select a value.
  5. Save the record (F12).
  6. You can also use the Copy or Import Users to Access Group assistant to copy or import users from a company, site, or access group. This is described in the following lesson.  

Note: At the least, users VIM (main VIM user) and JATA (teacher) must be added to your access group.

Connect Users to Access Group - 2

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to connect users to an access group by using the Copy or Import Users to Access Group assistant.

Windows:
Establish Access Group

  1. Open the Establish Access Group window.
  2. Query (F3) for the required access group.
  3. Right-click anywhere in the header, and then click Copy or Import Users to Access Group. The Copy or Import Users to Access Group assistant opens.
  4. There are several options to choose from when copying users to the access group. Options are:
  1. If you are copying from a company, site or access group, click Next.
  2. In the second step of the assistant, select the Include? check box for the users you want to add to the access group.
  3. Click Finish.

View Access Groups Per User

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to view all the access groups to which the selected user belongs.

Windows:
View Access Groups Per User

  1. Open the View Access Groups Per User window.
  2. Query (F3) for your user ID. 
  3. The access groups to which you belong will be displayed in the table of the window.

Remove Access Group

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to use the Remove Access Group feature.

Windows:
View Access Groups Per User

  1. Open the Establish Access Group window.
  2. Query (F3) for the access group nTEMP.
  3. Right-click anywhere in the header, and then click Remove Access Group. The Remove Access Group dialog box opens.
  4. To remove the access group, including all its details, select the Remove access group with all details check box.
  5. To remove all users, with the exception of IFSAPP and the logged-on user, select the Remove all users except application owner and current user check box.
  6. Click OK.
