Define and Maintain Rotable Pool—Exercises

Basic Data Setup

Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this rotable pool functionality. In this exercise, a purchased inventory part will be entered.

Windows:
Inventory Part

  • Open the Inventory Part window.
  • Create a new inventory part for your site, and enter the values shown in the table below.

    1. Save your changes.
    2. Click the Costs tab.
    3. Enter 100,000 as the estimated material cost.
    4. Save your changes.

    Part Catalog

    Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to define the inventory part as a serial part.

    Windows:
    Part

    1. Open the Partwindow.
    2. Query for part number XX-XXXXX (created in the previous exercise). 
    3. Select the Inventory Serial Tracking and After Delivery Serial Tracking check boxes.
    4. In the Serial Rule list, click Automatic.

    Receive Inventory Part

    Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to manually receive the inventory part into a picking location.

    Windows:
    Inventory Locations
    Receive Inventory Part

    1. Open the Inventory Locations window, and click the Locations tab.
    2. Create a picking location.
    3. Open the Receive Inventory Part window.
    4. Receive 10 individuals of part number XXX-XXXXX at the picking location.

    Part Availability Control

    Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create the part availability control ID that is necessary to use the rotable part pool functionality.

    Windows:
    Inventory Basic Data/Part Availability Controls

    1. Open the Inventory Basic Data window and then click Part Availability Controls tab.
    2. Create a new record.
    3. Create a part availability control, along with description of your choice, using the information in the table below.

    General exercise for Using Part Availability Control

    Main Exercise

    Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create and maintain a company-owned rotable part pool.

    Windows:
    Rotable Part Pool

    Define Rotable Pool

    1. Open the Rotable Part Pool window and create a new entry.
    2. Enter values of your choice in the Pool ID and a Pool Description fields.
    3. In the Ownership list, click Company Owned
    4. In the Part No field, enter XX-XXXXX or select it using the List of Values.
    5. In the Default Part Availability Control ID field, enter Rotable Pool or select it by using the List of Values.
    6. Enter 3 in the Target Pool Qty field.
    7. Save your changes.

    Select Site

    1. Click the Sites tab.
    2. Query for your site and select the Site Selected check box.
    3. Save your changes.

    Add Individual to Rotable Pool

    1. Click the Serials tab.
    2. Right-click and then click Add individuals.
    3. Select the Add Individual check box for the individual(s) you want to add to the rotable pool.
    4. Click OK to confirm your selection.

    Remove Individual from Rotable Pool

    1. Click the Serials tab.
    2. Select the line for the individual you want to remove from the rotable pool.
    3. Right-click and then click Remove From Pool.
    4. Enter an availability control ID in the Availability Control ID field. You can also leave this field empty.
    5. Click OK to confirm the removal of the individual from the rotable pool.

    Change Target Quantity

    1. In the Target Pool Qty field, enter a new target pool quantity value that is less than the current value in the Actual Pool Qty field. 
    2. Save your changes. What happens? Why?
