Moving Inventory Parts—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Entering Site

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to enter the additional site needed to perform the main exercise.

Windows:
Site

  1. Create a site with a site of XX-2 (where XX stands for your initials) and a site description of XX Site 2. Use company 10 and the default distribution and manufacturing calendars.

Entering Inventory Location

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to enter the inventory locations needed to perform the main exercise.

  1. Set up the following inventory locations, substituting your initials for the XXs.

Entering Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to enter the inventory parts needed to perform the main exercise.

  1. Create a purchased inventory part XX-58-581 (where XX stands for your initials), a part description of Wheel 195/50R15, and U/M of pcs (pieces). Set the inventory location XX-P1 as the default location.
  2. Copy the inventory part to site XX-2.
  3. Create a purchased inventory part XX-58-582 (where XX stands for your initials), a part description of Wheel 205/45R16, and U/M of pcs (pieces). Set the inventory location XX-P1 as the default location.
  4. Prepare the part XX-58-582 to be a pallet handled part. Enter 4 In the Standard Quantity at Pallet field, enter 4.
  5. Click the Misc Part Info tab and select the Pallet Handled check box to make your part pallet handled . Also enter the quantity per pallet in the Standard Putaway Qty.
  6. Click the Putaway Zones tab and enter the locations of your choice as zones with different rankings. Note that it is possible to enter zones containing both normal and pallet locations. The ranking decides in which order the putaway process will search for available locations.

Required Data

Receiving Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to receive inventory parts that will be moved in the exercises below.

  1. Receive 200 pieces of the part XX-58-581 into your picking location XX-P1 at your default site.
  2. Receive 20 pieces of the pallet handled part XX-58-582 into your pallet delivery location XX-PD1.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to understand how to move parts between locations, via transit, and by using transport tasks.

Moving Inventory Part

  1. Open the Move Inventory Part window and query for part XX-58-581.
  2. Move 10 pieces to location XX-P2 at the same site.
  3. Switch to the other location (XX-P2) for the part. Move the parts back to their original location.
  4. Move 10 pieces to location XX-P1 at site XX-2.

Note: You need to have access to both sites.

Moving Inventory Part via Transit

  1. Open the Move Inventory Part window and query for part XX-58-581.
  2. Move 10 pieces to location XX-P1 at site XX-2. In the Destination list, click Move to Transit.
  3. Save the changes.

Note: You need to have access to both sites.

  1. Open the Receive from Transit window and query for your part.
  2. Receive the parts from transit by entering the transferred quantity in the Qty Received field.
  3. Save the changes.

Moving Inventory Part Using Transport Task

  1. Make sure you have received the part into a pallet delivery location.
  2. Open the Handle Pallets on Delivery Location window and query for part XX-58-582.
  3. Right-click and then click Perform Putaway.
  4. Right-click and then click Transport Task to open the Transport Task window.
  5. Right-click and then click Execute to execute the transport task.
  6. Repeat the exercise, but use the possibility to change the to location on the transport task. Change to another pallet location type. Execute the transport task. What happens?
  7. Repeat the exercise, but use the possibility to change the to location on the transport task. Change to a picking location type. Execute the transport task. What happens?
