Refilling Inventory Locations—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Inventory Locations

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for using the refill functionality.

Windows:
Inventory Locations

  1. Open the Inventory Locations window and create inventory locations of the following types: Arrival, Quality Assurance, Picking, Pallet Delivery, and Pallet Buffer.

Purchase/Inventory/Sales Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create part data entries necessary when using the refill functionality.

Windows:

  1. Create XX-58-401 as a purchased, inventory, and sales part by using the New Part Assistant. Use supplier 5000.

Enabling Pallet Handling for Inventory Part

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.

Windows:
Inventory Part/Pallets

  1. Open the Inventory Part/Pallets tab, and create a new record.
  2. Enter a Pallet Buffer location group, and other mandatory data of your choice, then save the record.

Receiving Parts

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running the refill functionality.

  1. Open the Receive Inventory Part window, and search for your part.
  2. Receive more pieces than needed to reach the refill point at the picking location.

Creating Pallets

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running the refill functionality.

  1. Open the Receive Inventory Part window, and search for your part.
  2. Receive enough pieces to the pallet delivery location to create several pallets.
  3. Open the Handle Pallets on Delivery Location window and create a transport task to move some of the pallets to the pallet buffer location.
  4. Open the Transport Task window, search for, and execute the transport task.

Verifying Conditions for Automatic Refill

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running the refill functionality.

  1. Verify that there are more parts than the refill point quantity at the picking location.
  2. Verify that there are pallets on the pallet location
  3. Verify that all transport tasks for this part are executed.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to control automatic refilling of a picking location from a pallet location.

Quantity per Location Details


You have just reported that you have picked the last part from picking location A16. The system will create a transport task to refill the picking location.

Refilling Picking Locations

  1. Open the Quantity per Location Details tab to verify the quantity.
  2. Create a refill situation by scrapping enough parts to bring the available quantity at or below the refill point.
  3. Verify in the Transport Task window whether any transport task has been created. If so, execute the transport task.
  4. Refresh the Quantity per Location Details window for updated information. The picking location has now been refilled.
